OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

I’m always in favor of watching Alabama or ND throwing a damn fit. But I think the committee will find a way to protect them both.
They have no way of protecting both of them. Notre Dame and Alabama were both ranked behind all those other teams and wins over Stanford and Auburn don’t do anything to move them up. They will stay put or the committee will swap them because Alabama is playing in a conference championship game. If I were Notre Dame I would be very concerned about being left out. They kept SMU in after a close loss to Clemson in the ACC Championship last year. They would do the same thing for Alabama. They put extra value on the conference championship games and don’t want to punish teams for playing the extra game.

Both Alabama and Notre Dame should be concerned. If BYU beats Texas Tech both will get in CFP Notre Dame and one of the 5 SEC teams gotta go. Alabama better beat Georgia to leave no doubt. Imo they're playing with fire if they think they're in by just showing up at SEC Championship game.

I suppose we can agree on this:

Big Ten gets 3 teams in Oregon, Indiana and Ohio State
Big 12 either gets 1 or 2 depends on whether BYU beats Texas Tech or not
SEC gets 5 Georgia, Alabama, Texas A&M, Mississippi and Oklahoma or Texas.
ACC gets 1 IF Virginia beats Duke
G5 gets 1 or maybe 2 see ACC Championship..

Here's the thing if BYU beats Texas Tech and G5 ends up with 2 for some crazy scenarios, then SEC loses a team ...
I feel like Texas is out of it at this point. They needed two of Oklahoma, Alabama, Miami and Vanderbilt to lose ahead of them to realistically get in. Personally I would swap Notre Dame out and put Miami in due to the head to head and Miami has a larger margin of victory vs 2 out of the 3 common opponents they played. SOR and SOS are identical to each other. No matter how you look at it, Miami should be ranked ahead of Notre Dame as the last team in at the moment. That’s been my only true gripe.

If it ends up being Alabama, I expect them to announce the expansion to 16 teams the following day 🤣

Diego Labia’s brother arrested for public intoxication for the second time this year. If Diego were smart he would preemptively cut his brother off from the funds he gets before he really has to bail him out of a worse sticky situation. You can’t allow a hanger on to ruin your financial wealth that you earned. Your brother didn’t earn that money. He needs to be humbled.

I want this committee to really have their feet held to the flames and for the entire industry to see how ludicrous it is to award automatic bids in football. My rooting interests for ultimate chaos in the final rankings will be:

Alabama loses the SEC Championship

BYU wins the Big 12 Championship

Duke wins the ACC Championship

Tulane loses the American Championship

James Madison loses the Sun Belt Championship

I would assume North Texas would get a bid but good luck sorting the other automatic bid out between 8-5 Duke and whoever wins the Mountain West 🤣

This is going to be two consecutive years where auto bids have ruined the rankings. We had Boise State and Arizona Stae jumping over everyone and getting first round byes all because they won their conference championship, and now we might have three teams stealing bids from teams ranked ahead of them. We will for sure have 2 bids stolen. Do away with auto bids and make it 16 teams. No byes and the first two rounds played on campus.

If I were Ole Miss, I would not give Lane the satisfaction of allowing him to coach the playoff game. It will be a home playoff game too. Those fans would be irate with him. To him to go ahead and get on the plane and we will figure it out on our own.
