There is a reason why Willie was his godfather. Both love talking about themselves. Willie got all the hype but Hank ended up having the better career. It’s hard to name another baseball player that was consistently dominant for a longer period of time. Willie had a higher peak but his was shorter at about 13 years while Hank’s was about 17 years.

The whole Hank Aaron thing is kinda weird. I’ve watched old interviews of guys like Mantle with Aaron and Mays with Aaron and my takeaway is Aaron didn’t get the notoriety or pub that Mantle and Mays received. I don’t think that came until much later in his career, when people realized, holy 💩, this dude is really about to become the homerun king.
