OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

Not sure what I think about this quote from Ryan Day earlier this week. Maybe I want my coach to feel this way, but not to say it out loud? He may need some perspective.

Earlier this week, Day told an Ohio TV station how much his three-game losing streak to Michigan had affected himself and his family: “It’s one of the worst things that’s happened to me in my life, quite honestly. Other than losing my father and a few other things, like it’s quite honestly, for my family, the worst thing that’s happened. So we can never have that happen again, ever.”

If current results hold it might look like this with next week’s rankings heading into Champ Week. Bolded teams are playing in their championship game with the 2nd Big 12 participant still up for grabs:

1 Oregon (1 seed)
2 Texas (2 seed)
3 Penn State (5 seed)

4 Notre Dame (6 seed)
5 Georgia (7 seed)
6 Tennessee (8 seed)
7 SMU (3 seed)
8 Ohio State (9 seed)
9 Indiana (10 seed)
10 Boise State (4 seed)
11 Alabama (11 seed)
12 South Carolina
13 Ole Miss
14 Arizona State (12 seed)
15 Miami
16 Iowa State
17 Clemson
18 BYU
19 Missouri
20 UNLV
21 Illinois
22 Colorado
23 Army
24 Memphis
25 Tulane

I wouldn't pencil Boise State in the CFP, don't sleep on UNLV Barry Odom is a good Head Coach..
I don’t think anyone is penciling them in after they have looked down the stretch. It’s an “either/or” scenario. The Mountain West Championship is a CFP play-in since the AAC teams will be ranked behind both of them. If Boise State wins they will be the 4 seed. If UNLV wins they will be the 12 seed. The Big 12 champions will be whichever one the Mountain West is not.

Funny how this all decided by the BYU game, when neither team in that game has a chance.
Welcome to the world of division-less football lol. It makes sense in basketball but it makes tiebreakers extremely difficult in football, especially because everyone doesn’t play everyone.

Heather Dinich just revealed her projected bracket and moved Georgia up to 7 seed, slid Ohio State to 8 seed and kept us at 9 seed. Don’t know how much credit she has, I haven’t followed her projections.
I think it’s a toss up with this committee but they’ve been dropping teams at least 6 spots for a second loss all season long so that makes literally zero sense on her part. If they dropped Georgia from 3 to 12 and Alabama from 7 to 13 then they will drop Ohio State 6 spots too. If they leave us behind Ohio State then all hell will break loose. You can guarantee that.

If Vanderbilt is considered a quality loss for Alabama and a quality win for Texas whenever both those teams were in dog fights then they need to consider it the same for us whenever we straight dominated them after getting down 17-7. We out scored them 29-6 after that.
