On January 12 in Baseball History...
  • 1920 - A plan developed by Charles Ebbets many years ago is finally adopted - the annual drafting of players from the minor leagues will be done in inverse order of the final standings.

  • 1972 - Owner John Fetzer announces that the Tigers have signed a lease to build a $126 million domed stadium along the river in downtown Detroit. The complex will seat 52,000 for baseball, and 60,000 for football. Lawsuits, a failed bond issue, and the construction of the Silverdome in nearby Pontiac eventually kill the idea.

  • 1983 - Brooks Robinson and Juan Marichal are elected to the Hall of Fame by the BBWAA. Robinson, winner of 16 straight Gold Gloves and hero of the 1970 World Series, becomes the 14th player elected in his first year of eligibility. Marichal, the winningest Latin American pitcher in major league history, won 20 or more games six times and had an ERA of 2.50 or less six times.

  • 1988 - Former Pirates slugger Willie Stargell is the only player elected to the Hall of Fame by the BBWAA. Stargell, leader of two world champions in Pittsburgh and NL co-MVP in 1979 at age 39, becomes the 17th player to be elected in his first year of eligibility. Jim Bunning falls four votes shy of the 321 needed for election in his 13th year on the ballot.

  • 1994 - Steve Carlton, winner of 329 games and four Cy Young Awards, is elected to the Hall of Fame.

Baseball Deaths on January 12...

@chuckiepoo and @txbo, I couldn’t help but notice that the men’s final 4 happens to be in Houston this year...

My wife (who despises sporting events) is from there, and when I mentioned it, her response was: well it would be nice to visit my family 👀🙏🤠
Without her cramping your style you gonna have the babes flocking around you in the fur.

I did consider the possibility of picking up 2 smaller coats for the minions so that we could be a trio in fur. However, they'd be too embarrassed to wear them.

The wife lets us attend games, as evidenced by the season tickets in football and hoops plus several baseball games, although sometimes it comes with some pleading if it starts to get excessive, and away games are usually a no-no.

Question of the day.

All three NFL teams from the state of Florida made the playoffs.

Has it ever happened before?
If yes how many times?

Tell Jim Rome to go steal 30 bases and drive in 51 runs in a season and let us know how easy that is. Yeah Michael Jordan wasn’t a great baseball player but he wasn’t the worst either. Some people just don’t realize how hard the sport is. I can’t stand that blow hard Jim Rome.

So he’s not a HOF Baseball player , however he’s not an utter embarrassment or the worst ever Pro Baseball player.
He has some good skills as a Pro Baseball player including he does have good running speed, and is a good hitter for getting runs scored which not easy to do.

Anyways I’m working out today early, and I’m wearing unique workout clothes.

My Fanatics Calgary Flames hat, my Replica Chicago Fire Red Jersey, and Derrick Rose Adidas Bulls colored shorts.
It’s double the Fire Pro teams day I’m a fan of since I’m wearing a Calgary Flames hat, and a Red Adidas Chicago Fire soccer Jersey.

Interesting fact is the University of Illinois Chicago has the team name Flames.
The MLS Soccer team in Chicago is the Chicago Fire.

So the great city Chicago that I love has a fire team for the Pros to be exact a MLS team, and for the College team which is the Illinois Chicago Flames or the Chicago Flames.

I’ll show a picture when I’m back at the house.

I’m going to say one other time. I remember the Jags won the division in 1999 at 14-2 and the Titans were the only team to beat them that season. And beat them once again to make that miraculous Super Bowl run. The Jags played the Dolphins in the previous round and absolutely destroyed them. Probably the worst beatdown I have ever witnessed in an NFL game. They scored 60 something points in a playoff game! Can’t remember if the Bucs made the playoffs that season but that was about the same time they were trending upwards so I will say the 1999 season.

Edit: Forgot to mention the Titans had finished 13-3 that season and was the freaking wildcard because the Jags were 14-2. That was probably the best wildcard team of all time.
