OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

@VolPack22 so YouTube tv doesn’t carry any Bally networks? I have the mlb subscription and catch 80% of the Cardinal games on that. But, for Cincinnati and Atlanta, I have to watch on Bally. What’s a guy to do?
If you have a mlb.tv subscription then I would recommend purchasing a good VPN and install on your computer. You can then connect to an IP address in a different city or country and it will make it seem like you are out of market. It’s almost impossible to get it working right on smartphones now because the At Bat app requires your GPS location before starting a stream, so even if you have a VPN it might not work right on your phone. That’s why I recommend watching from a web browser on your computer. MLB is the worst whenever it comes to accessing their league’s games. They talk about growing the sport but make their games so difficult to watch. It is extremely frustrating.

MLB.tv Blackouts Workaround using a VPN : Tested For 2023

Edit: @mad4vols you should be able to use this same method using a VPN to watch the Lions through NFL+ and select an IP address in a city that is scheduled to show the Lions. Probably not useful for this season since it’s over but you should still be able to use this for next season.

Ok, thanks. I just had no idea about possible solutions. Yeah, MLB says one thing and does another.

Also, I thought I remembered reading that Fubo TV recently reaching a deal with Bally Sports so they will start to carry that network in the coming weeks more than likely. Google just bought the rights to NFL Sunday Ticket so it wouldn’t shock me to shell out more money to get Bally Sports back on the channel lineup.

On January 6 in Baseball History...
  • 1936 - Giants President Charles A. Stoneham dies. He was the last surviving member of the trio that purchased the team in 1919.

  • 1942 - Bob Feller, winner of 76 games for the Indians in three previous seasons, follows Hank Greenberg into the military.

  • 1956 - A federal court bars former Little League Commissioner Carl Stotz from forming a rival group. He initiated the suit because he felt the league had grown too big, and that increasing team rosters to 15 players was preventing less able players from getting any real playing time.

  • 1964 - Charlie Finley signs a two-year pact to move the A's from Kansas City to Louisville, pending AL approval. He is later denied and the A's stay put in Kansas City until after the 1967 season.

Baseball Deaths on January 6...

This is what I ate for dinner on Thursday Night.

I changed my mind to a Medium Pizza Hut Pan Pepperoni pizza.
If Pizza Hut hasn’t returned to the way they made the Pan Pizza in the 90s and 80s then the new Pizza Hut pan pizza is pretty good.

Men’s PAC 12 Basketball
The great Arizona Wildcats were favored by 18 points vs the unranked gritty good Washington Huskies team that did lead the Wildcats in Arizona, however the Wildcats successfully came back except the Wildcats saw the Huskies are a determined tenacious team that wouldn’t go away because they continued to compete keeping the game close, they got the game down to 3 points late in the 2nd half, and the Huskies weren’t able to make a game winning field goal to send the game to Overtime.
However the Huskies still won bettors a lot of money since the number 5 Wildcats defeat the Huskies 70-67 which is 15 points short of the 18 points the Wildcats were favored by to win.

I see the Washington Huskies at home play the great Arizona Wildcats On January 28.
I’m greatly looking forward to that rematch because I expect the Huskies to close by defeating a great Wildcats team since they couldn’t close Vs the Wildcats because they didn’t defend a lead, and they couldn’t get the game tied to send it to overtime.
The Washington Huskies compete to win the game not get a moral victory by losing a close game that the favored team failed to cover the spread.

I’m not saying you can’t look at strengths from losing a close game because you can, however being happy with a moral victory is a rose colored glasses view of a defeat.

@VolPack22 one more question if I may. The YouTube add on list shows mlb.tv pricing as $30/yr. My annual renewal on my MLB.TV annual subscription is around $120/yr. Is this telling me that if I go thru YouTube and get the mlb.tv add on that I’m paying $90 less for the same thing? That can’t be possible, can it? I’m trying to cut this cord, but it’s quite gnarly. Appreciate the advice.

Yeah I’ve never seen it that low. I paid $9.99/month for mine last year while they had a deal and cancelled it at the end of the season. Whenever I go into act like I am resubscribing it gives a lot of options but none for $30/yr. It still gives me the $9.99/month option though which isn’t bad. Maybe that’s special pricing through YouTube TV? I would go into your settings on YouTube TV and act like you are going to add on MLB.tv and see what the pricing is before you confirm the subscription.

Okay, thanks. I’m ordering today or tomorrow probably and will let you know. I’m trying not to screw up with my current provider so I don’t miss any basketball, football, and that big Monday night game. Appreciate the advice.

If it does let you get MLB.tv for $30/yr I would jump on that. That’s a heck of a deal.

We seriously might have four 500 yard rushers.

Wright
Small
Sampson
Milton III

We just might end up with 5 RBs with 500 yards rushing in 2023.

P.S. .... Don't forget about 3*** freshman RB Khalifa Keith coming in from Alabama.

:) Dude is a 6'0 & 235 lb train running down hill to the end zone.

Or .... 3 *** TN RB DeSean Bishop at 5'10" & 196 lbs going full speed to the end zone.
