I saw he is starting on the NFI list. I have no idea what that is all about. “Something” that occurred or became apparent during the offseason.

Injury Details

Impact on the Texans

• Guaranteed Absence:
  The move to the Reserve/NFI list guarantees he will miss the first four games of the season.
  
  
• Backfield Committee:
  Veteran Nick Chubb and rookie Woody Marks, along with other players like Dameon Pierce and Dare Ogunbowale, will carry the workload in Mixon's absence.

It’s basically injured reserve with designation to return. It used to be if you put someone on injured reserve they were out the entire season. It’s a little complex now. I think a team gets to use that designation on 8 players in the regular season and 2 can be used for return in the postseason.

NFI is the “Non-Football Injury” list. So it looks like Mixon did something to get injured away from the team. He will not count against the team’s 53 roster limit while on the list but whenever the 4 weeks are up the Texans have to start a 3-week window to either activate him or place him on season ending IR. Also, since the injury in question supposedly occurred away from the team, Mixon is not entitled to his full salary and the team can negotiate a lesser salary for this season.

Yeah those are the 5 teams currently that have their broadcasting rights through MLB. I wish MLB had the rights to all of the teams so every team could be available regardless of where you are located. But Regional Sports Networks just don’t know how to give up and die already. Local blackouts are single handily the most idiotic thing in broadcasting in today’s world. It should be illegal.
