Yanks got EXTREMELY lucky with pickups they did make.

But the core of Williams, Jeter, Posada, Rivera and Pettitte were the drivers. Other "homegrown" players like Ramiro Mendoza. Pat Kelly. Shane F'N Spencer. "El Duque"

Boggs had been there since '93. Tino since '96. O'Neill since '93. Cone in '95. Gooden in '96 after not playing in '95.

Something I did not necessarily know, but probably could have guessed: The Yankees have the best winning % amongst teams that have won a title during my lifetime. Braves are 2nd, Dodgers 3rd. To say I’ve been spoiled is an understatement. Outside of the Yankees, there has not been a more consistently good franchise during my lifetime. Not everyone can say that.
