No, but I make a mean pecan pie. Those are my specialties, pimento cheese spread, pecan pie, mint iced tea and gravy. That’s all I got lol.
Awww! My late wife made me a pecan pie for my birthday every year (she was a great baker, but for this she just used the recipe on the side of Karo syrup bottle). For 9 years after, I couldn't take even a bite of pecan pie--for sure not in public.

Last year, walking around the town square, I stepped into a local pie store, thinking, "I can do this. It's my favorite dessert and I miss it. I've moved on in every other way. It's time..."

I asked for a slice of their pecan pie, and started losing it before I could even finish getting the words out! Dang! Had to walk over to a corner of the store (thankfully no one else was there) and bury my head in the wall 'til she tapped me on the shoulder and handed it to me in a box.

Guess I'm gonna have to be a "closet pecan pie eater" for the rest of my life. Pecan pie is one powerful elixir when made with love.

No shame in that brother. Food is a big way in how we share love. At least you will always have those cherished memories with her. Some people go their entire lives and don’t find a love like that.

This is the serious question.

Cake or Pie?
Since my role is to bring the nerd perspective here...

Cake--especially a layered cake--was a delicacy enjoyed only by the rich. This was because the other 98% of us had wood stoves, and it was nearly impossible to find and maintain the exact temperature needed to bake a fluffy, moist cake.

When electric stoves arrived and became affordable among the middle class (along with other developments), every housewife began making cakes for every special occasion in the '50s! It was like we'd all become Rockefellers overnight!

Eventually, the novelty wore off and people came to their senses about how much better a pie made with fresh fruit is than any cake. (Well, that part's IMHO!)

This was a great history lesson. My vote is for pie.

I’m so sorry.

C’mon MAD, this is like asking, blonde or brunette?
I grew up thinking redheads were genetic freaks. Loved blondes in the '60s... then had a thing for short-haired brunettes in the '70s... then a thing for my wife's beautiful hair (from its auburn highlighted brown youth to its salt & pepper days) but now it's redheads (as well as, age appropriately, grey-silver-white heads) who catch my eye in a crowd.

🤔 So here's the question: if I'm no longer in my procreating years and I now prefer redheads, does that mean that--from an evolutionary psychology vantagepoint--that redheads really are considered genetic outliers? 🧬

If so... viva la outliers!

Who doesn’t love a redhead?
Heck, I’ve seen a couple of bald chicks downtown, that I thought were hot.
🤷‍♂️

I can’t begin to give advice on something I haven’t experienced, but if she was anything like you, I’d think that she would want you to enjoy that pecan pie, with a big smile on your face the whole time!
In fact, I’m fairly certain it would probably make her smile too!
Give it another shot, I’m rooting for you.

Just texted a friend about it. We agreed that this sad news is going to generate a lot of posts and remembrances, that will re-introduce some great pop music to yet another generation.

So many happy, very listenable songs, but Pet Sounds stands out as one of the truly genius albums of the era.
