I think this is just left brain vs. right brain, or realists vs. romantics.
Peyton chose to have the experience, despite the risk of injury. But for what purpose do most students go to college? Is it not to prepare for, or open doors to, a career?
Oppenheimer chose to leave Cambridge to go to Göttingen, just so he could study under Max Born. Not smart job-wise, but turned out to be very smart career-wise.
Personally, and probably with the perspective of age, I'd now contend that the left brain is not the hemisphere to follow. When you reach the final third of life, it will be the relationships that give meaning and joy to your existence, far more than the money, statistics, resume, or anything else that can be quantified on a spreadsheet or translated into digital.
However successful his career, I hope Chase falls in love with someone he comes to value more than his career, and gets the opportunity to become a devoted father. Those will bring him more fulfillment than even a HOF career.
But we were all young once...
