I’ve told this story before. Here it goes. I was hanging with my bud big 84 Burton in the hotel lobby before the Ohio State game in Orlando. Bobby Denton was there and talked with us. I was star struck! I asked him to say one thing. “Tackle by Tyrone Hines!” He did and it was Awesome!!!!
Remember him well. He was great. Surprised his name doesn’t come up more often. He was Al Wilson’s predecessor. Thought he would have played in the NFL a bit. Was he considered a smaller linebacker?
Tyrone Hines sat beside me in science class at UT when I went there. He was extremely nice. He would put on his headphones with a walkman (whew) in class and he'd always ask me if I liked the song and put the headphones on my head . I can't say he did a lot in that class but he was a great guy. One thing besides the headphones I remember about him was he had enormous hands. Could probably crush a car with those things. Ah man I miss UT.
edit- I also sat behind Peyton Manning at a fraternity boxing match when I went there too. I didn't talk to him though.
We played a lot of freshman that game. I remember blocking an XP and FG that game and that's only reason 70+ wasnt hung on us. By the time we were seniors, we gave that Melrose team with the 6 SEC players a hell of a game in the playoffs....
Actually, I do a lot of work with the guy that was the QB of that Haywood team...
