From Jesse Simonton...

Tennessee exited spring practice with just 10 available scholarship offensive lineman — and that’s including a pair of former defensive tackles who flipped sides of the ball halfway through camp.

While reinforcements will arrive this summer, the Vols are still searching for immediate help up front, especially considering the continued uncertainty surrounding Trey Smith’s status.

The Vols are scouring the grad transfer and JUCO market, and could sign as many as two offensive lineman this summer, per sources.

With spring practices over and finals wrapping up, too, many players have already announced their intentions to find a new landing spot for 2018. Others could follow suit shortly.

Among those already on the market, Tennessee does not have any current interest in Georgia’s Pat Allen, who Will Friend recruited to Athens, and isn’t expected to pursue Florida’s Andrew Mike, either.

Meanwhile, several potential targets are off the board (Justin Murphy to UCLA, Toriano Roundtree to Colorado State and Breontae Matthews to UNC Greensboro).

Here are a handful of grad transfers the Vols make take a look at, though.

1. OG Dallas Warmack, Alabama

Reports surfaced Wednesday that the former 4-star Mays (Ga.) standout plans to graduate from Alabama this weekend and then transfer for a new school. Warmack actually redshirted in 2017, but was a backup the previous two seasons. As a redshirt junior, Warmack would have two seasons of eligibility remaining and is versatile enough to play guard or center. While Oregon is seen as the perceived favorite for the 6-foot-2, 310-pound interior lineman, Tennessee is certainly interested in a potential reunion with former Tide staffers Jeremy Pruitt and Brian Niedermeyer, among others.

2. OT John Cook, Central Arkansas

Cook was dominant at the FCS level, starting 24 games the last two seasons. The 6-foot-4, 320-pound tackle was a second-team FCS All-American in 2017, earning the Southland Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year honors after helping UCA finish second in the league in scoring and total offense.

3. OT Kevin Feder, Ohio State

Feder announced his transfer back in January, and like Warmack, the massive tackle still has two seasons of eligibility remaining. The 6-foot-9, 305-pound tackle played very sparingly for the Buckeyes during his first two seasons in Columbus, and he redshirted in 2017 with a foot injury. The New Jersey native is definitely considering Tennessee among his options, per sources, but it’s unclear how hard the Vols are actually pushing for the former 3-star recruit.

4. OG Terrell Cuney, Texas

While Tennessee would prefer instant impact offensive tackles, Cuney did start eight games at guard/center for Texas in 2017. The 6-foot-2, 300-pound senior has one year of eligibility remaining. Cuney is a former U.S. Army All-American from Jasper, Texas.

Other names available include Brinkley Jolly from Wyoming and Antonio Riles from Florida.

It my understanding there is a hard # of 25 for new scholarship players each year. Would these count as this year or next year?

Lots of good info in your post. Thing are shaping up

Next year. Seems that Pruitt’s calculation is that it’s paramount to have a successful 2018 season, to show very good improvement so he can better sell his vision to recruits and land a stellar class in 2019.

Have heard that he’s willing to steal a bit from Peter to pay Paul to make that happen. So, perhaps 2019 looks more like a few of Clemson’s classes in recent years (they’ve averaged 16-17 recruits per class the last 3 years).....sacrifice some quantity for a ton of quality.

Our OL is straight garbage and we are just looking for bodies for 2018.. The key is none of the players went to the NFL or even tried which tells you how good they really are

We are hoping for a broke down Hall for 2018... show how bad our roster is... he proavlbly will need knee replacement. By the time he is 40 ..

Smith, yes, obviously. But an oft-injured Hall who hasn’t played in a year and a half? Not so sure.

Either way, if Pruitt can bring in a guy like Warmack who’s been in the best college football program in the country, who was slated to be in Bama’s 2-deep this year, I say sign him up ASAP. He’d be an immediate upgrade imho.

Warmack, Feder and Cook all sound good. I like the idea of a 6'9" OT.

We definitely don't need any linemen who couldn't start on a sucky Florida OL.

Any of the top 4 are fine by me. I would like to see someone with 2 years of eligibility remaining, but we need at least 1 more OL even is Trey can come back. I am ok woth signing 20 quality this year if Pruitt can get more quality wins and be competitive. Beating Kentucky, Vandy, Missouri should be a given each year and woth our Ol right now I don’t think it is.

Warmack would be my first choice, but he sounds Oregon bound from an article I read earlier. It seems a coach he knows real well is out there.

Cook sounds ready to play. Wouldn't mind getting him here.

The other two, or any other one year rental... .meh

We need at least a couple of OL. I'm intrigued by the guy from OSU. Definitely has the measurables of a solid OT. Then again, so did Dontavis Blair.

But he already knows most of this staff. Why wouldn’t he not come to play with Pruitt, because I think he would feel at home here. A new beginning in a new environment at Tennessee would be the perfect spot for him to take off for his career. He already knows that he would improve even more and that they would use him in a heartbeat. A reunion of this guy with Pruitt would feel like a blessing to both.:peace2:

I know he's not an OL but is this a risk worth taking (per Rotoworld)

Kentucky redshirt senior edge rusher Denzil Ware will transfer as a graduate.

This is a huge loss for the Wildcats. Ware (6'2/255) ranked second on the team in TFL (9.0) and third in sacks (6.5) last year. He also had two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. For all that, he earned Phil Steele All-SEC Third Team honors. And that was despite being suspended for the Music City Bowl tilt against Northwestern for an unspecified violation of team rules. That suspension may have led to his abrupt departure. Ware is now eligible to play wherever he likes immediately as a graduate. A potential NFL-caliber talent who's already accrued 27 TFL in 35 games against SEC competition, Ware will be a valuable commodity on college football's free agent circuit.

Somehow we believe this is going to help us be good next year in fact we’re not .. let’s just build through the high school recruiting cycles

And then call the coach out when we don’t win instantly. You don’t have many cycles at this level of football. Gotta show something.

Short-term fix with average players is not going to be successful in the long run we are posters on here that are wanting players that are marginal to fill in the gap’s

Seems like you just admitted it's a fix / isn't this what we want, to have it fixed? The goal seems to be get it fixed, this year (and then the long-term will follow).
