As much as some here may not believe the kids commit to the coaches more than the schools.

There's really nothing he does that well anyways. He's not fast, quick, and is not overly physical. He's really just another body.

What is so incredible is that almost to a poster, everyone last year said, "Kiffin's trimming off the dead wood." "They can't hack it." "Didn't need them anyway" as we lost player after player. Oku MAY decide that he is going to transfer and it is all Dooley's fault...

The retort I thought you might come back with was that Oku could be part of the problem.

For example, if Dooley thinks Oku's play affects the rest of the team, and that he does not give it his all, that's why he called him out in the first place. If that is the case, and Oku is now leaving, then this would be part of the solution.

Hate to shoot myself down like that, but just speculating from a different point of view.

I'd enjoy reading insider (player/team) perspectives on this one.

Which is what happens when one coach is fired and the next one quits after one year on the job to go to another program.

That's on Hamilton as much as anyone. He should've had a plan in place that was failproof the moment he fired Fulmer. He took a risk by replacing Fulmer with Lane Kiffin and it backfired drastically, and has severely damaged the program. Fulmer had to go, but he should've taken a long look at Kiffin's character before deciding on him. You can't change that damaged mindset that it caused overnight. It takes time.

Failproof.. as in finding someone will commit to the University until that person has at least put in the work to make sure his legacy won't be in question. Look at Les Miles at LSU. A couple of years ago, Michigan wanted to hire him as their HC. It was no secret that Miles is a Michigan man and that was his dream job. Say what you want about the man's IQ and ability on the field. However, he honored his commitment to LSU. He gave his word and wasn't going to break his contract.

Taking the USC job is understandable, but to claim that "he left the program in much better shape" after just one year on the job, fully knowing the longterm damage he was going to cause just goes to show the kind of chance that Hamilton took without investigating any character claims.

Kiffin was a d-bag long before he came to UT, and if Hamilton had done a thorough job researching and still came to the conclusion that he could count on Kiffin, then there is something seriously wrong with his judgement. If he didn't care about it, then it shows that he would hire anyone without any thought of the consequence of his actions.

I dont know why this kids come in and think they are going to be great.You got ESPN building up these kids before they get into college.Showing all these high school games on tv and talking about how great they are going to be.It easy for these kids to be good in high school but in D1 everyone is good.You are not the only good player(star) on the field.You got to come in work hard and maybe by the time you are a JR or SR you might be good.The kids that come in as FR and So that have great years are usually special players.

You know that was all done last year. It is obvious something is not right with Oku this year. He seemed so positive this year. I remember in the begenning of the season.... Oku and Poole were like brothers. What gives? CDD built him up this summer. Neal appears to be faster and more motivated. GBO!!!

That D-bag should have looked at the roster and realized that in fact he didn't. If Oku leaves, that will be 6 people from his so called "stellar" 2009 class that has left the program or did not get in to start with. Bryce Brown, Nuke Richardson, Mike Edwards, Darren Myles, James Green, and quite possibly David Oku. That would make 6 out of 22 players that are no longer honoring their commitment. I'm not totally sure where Kiffin went to middle school but I can even tell that almost 30% of the class that he was so proud to bring to the Tennessee family (as he once said) is no longer here. Seeing this is going to make me even more happy to sit back and watch him fail miserably at USC because he can't keep players out of jail/on the roster.

I could see this happening. He's been surpassed on the depth chart. I think he would have been good in a third down back type of role though.
