Oklahoma QB John Mateer to Undergo Surgery

It feels like we’re still paying off that debt. It’s like one of those 30% interest credit cards
We got bad breaks in 1998 too:

1) We lost the best RB on the planet in the 4th game of the season.

2) The refs misinterpreted a rule in the Arkansas game by giving us a safety instead of the ball on the 1 yard line. Interpreted correctly, the stumble and fumble wouldn’t have been necessary.

Funny how teams that overcome bad breaks are considered “lucky.”

According to Google AI the injury improved his abilities :
  • Despite the injury, he continued to play in the game, though his performance in the second half was better than in the first.

It's his throwing hand so I'm willing to bet he's done for the season. We shall see
Exactly, one following through on a throw that hits a helmet of a defender will be another end. It happens to QBs a lot hitting the helmet of a D-lineman on a follow through. It will be a big risk if he comes back too soon and a high risk for an easy reinjury. IMO

Well yesterday Google AI tried to tell me that the last time LSU played in Neyland was in October 2022 and that the Tigers won that game 40-13 😂 Which is odd, because I remember that game quite differently

I was at that game in Neyland in Baton Rouge

He should be back by our game.
I'm guessing we'll be his first game back. Here is what Chad GPT compiled looking at Drew Brees, Matt Stafford, and Russell Wilson

Looking across reported cases:

Completion %: often 5–10% lower than pre-injury average in the first game.

Yards per attempt: usually 0.5–1.0 lower.

TD:INT ratio: more prone to turnovers (ball sailing or slipping).

👉 In short: most QBs are noticeably below their normal level in their first game back, unless recovery is unusually strong (like Brees). By the next couple games, they tend to rebound.

They didn't really push the ball down the field. A lot of dink and dunking. But it doesn't really matter now because he is having surgery. The recovery time is the recovery time, whether it's 4 weeks or the rest of the season.

Dont worry, guys. His 1st game back will be Tenn and he will have his Heisman moment they all talk about.
They have a bye after us. Returning after the bye week seems like the smart play unless his recovery is just super smooth. If it’s at all questionable, you 100% wait the extra game and get 2 more weeks to rehab.

Google AI is an idiot.

OU got their karma for intentionally running an illegal play. Leave that 💩 in the Big12, Boomer. We play real football here.
