Oklahoma QB John Mateer to Undergo Surgery

They might have 3 losses by then. They do get TX and Ole Miss at home at least, but USCjr on the road...man.
If they don’t have Mateer for Texas and Ole Miss they aren’t going to win those games with their backup, he’s just not good. USCleast isn’t good at all so I’d expect Okie to win that game although low scoring. Sellers is going to play himself into having to go back to college next season if he doesn’t pick it up. With Mateer they are tough, without him they are decent.

One hand, I want him back for our game.
That way we can say we beat all the teams at their best.
Also, he'll just be coming back and better chance he has a little rust.

Other hand, I don't because he is a Heisman level QB and those guys tend to win.
Caveat to your last point: we appear to have one of those as well.

Main thing is DO NOT return prematurely. Hands are delicate mechanisms. Probably best just to shut the year down and prepare for the draft. My unbiased opinion, of course.
Never have seen anybody’s hand that had surgery be better for it. I’ve seen a lot of fingers never work they way they should after surgery. The most I’ve ever let them do was stick two pins in my wrist when I broke it.

The football gods have tortured us over and over since '98. At this point, I'll take any and every crumb, break or bounce that goes our way...with no apologies for 'em.

Not me...if him being out versus us makes our game with them easier (and it absolutely does) then I hope he's out.

With ya. Want things to work out best for the kid but I'll never apologize for getting a win with the other team having a star player with an injury. Look at what we're dealing with on the defensive side of the ball right now. It's all about getting 10-11 wins and making the playoff again. The easiest path there is fine with me.
