Oklahoma QB John Mateer to Undergo Surgery

So he's definitely out for the Red River Rivalry vs Texas, which is just 18 days from today.

And then the Sooner's "murderer's row" starts a couple weeks after that, on the 25th of October (one month from Thursday), with -- in order -- Ole Miss, Tennessee, Bama, Mizzou, and LSU. All five ranked right now. Ouch.

Will he be back for any of that? Hard to imagine him getting back in time for all of it.
Timing would make our game likely his first one back…if everything goes smoothly.

Four weeks has him returning just in time for Ole Miss. Five weeks is us. Six weeks is Bama. As long as there are no complications, probably one of those three.

We'll have to see. I hope the lad's hand heals well and fully.

Go Vols!

EDIT: correction -- seven weeks is the Bama game. There's a bye week for the Sooners between the Vols and Tide.

Honestly, I think that's exactly whats about to happen. The injury is on his throwing hand and there's no way you risk permanent injury coming back to soon. He's a Top 10 NFL lock imo.
Yup, if I'm a top 10 or day 1 lock, well it's been fun boys, I'll be rooting for y'all from the sidelines. NIL money is good but NIL ain't NFL Money
The term you hear now and will continue to hear a lot is, it's a business decision. heck I heard Lagway is in a walking boot may shut it down for the year. Some fans are asking if he'll hit the portal

Oklahoma has no run game either. That Defense is going to have to carry them for at least a month. Mateer is the Okie offense
Correct.

Volnation’s only concern (and it’s legitimate) is Tennessee’s historical ability to make the opposing teams backup qb look like a Heisman candidate.

With CJH…it’s going to be different this time.

Going from hot weather, surgery, rehab, then back to playing in cold weather in the teeth of the schedule. That is one tall order.
That's a very good point. If he's back for TN no way he's 100%. Plus it's on the road and Neyland will be rocking especially if it's at night. I wonder if we wear our black unis?
