Okay, time to debate Dobbs as third string (for what)

Just saying it's easy for us to say something WOULD HAVE HAPPENED...you could just as easily argued that Dobbs gets destroyed and doesn't develop if we start him against Oklahoma...facts are not in evidence. Fact...we HAVE a QB....NOW!! And he shows that our decried offense under Butch and Coach Jake can be high powered. Where are the cries for the I formation tonight?

I formation and play action fit Worley. I don't know what Worley could have done in an offense that fit his skill set.

Well, if we knew all the variables I would comment, and since none of you know the variables, I don't think any speculation is relevant. But I guess it's a valid out of the loop forum discussion.

Alright, I pull for seniors and I thought Worley did pretty damn good.

But the Dobb Goblin is like Bray with a dash of Vince Young and Albert Einstein.

I believe the stories that Butch promised Dobbs a redshirt.

However, I also believe in playing the best player no matter what. Did Butch make the right call?

Go!

(I love how Worley played but Dobbs is just the Dobb Goblin on the loose!)

First Dobbs is an infinitely better QB than Bray. Not as a pocket passer, but as far as EVERY SINGLE OTHER aspect of running an offense.

Second, Butch and his staff made a calculated decision to try to finish this season without burning Dobbs shirt, knowing I'm sure that it would take a little luck. But getting to a bowl was doable, as long as Worley stayed healthy. THAT's why he didn't let Worley run early in the year.

My opinion, we could have had one or maybe two more wins this year had Dobbs played them all. But it wouldn't have meant a damn thing. We weren't playing for championships this year, but we will be in the coming years. And that's when we'd love to have a roster full of top notch QBs to call on.

This season was always about taking the next step, getting the bowl, continuing the positive momentum for recruiting, building this roster for what will be coming the next few years.

Bottom line, they made the right call. But fans want a little bit now more than they want a lot later.

JMO.

Idiots gone idiot.

Another angle: was Dobbs redshirt worth a Florida loss this year?

How about another angle: Dobbs was absolutely terrible in summer camp practice and the first 6 weeks or so of the season. Go back and read and watch practice videos. He consistently couldn't complete passes against air. He had no confidence and no game.

The light finally came on over the past 3 weeks or so... Thank goodness.

These people who refuse to accept the facts as they were make me shake my head. :loco:

Sometimes players have to "find" themselves. It is obvious Dobbs did in the 2nd quarter of the Alabama game because he was hot garbage last year...its the truth and everyone knows it.

Maybe Worley took some of those beatings because he can't "feel" pressure like Dobbs obviously can. Maybe Worley took some of those beatings because the defense can play more man zone because Worley was no threat to escape the pocket? Maybe Dobbs isn't taking those beatings because he gets more single coverage because the defense has to spy the QB and lose an extra defender who could help out in coverage?

Maybe. Maybe you know what your talking about, maybe you don't. Let me guess, you were calling for Dobbs after the UGA game....

I would rather he red shirted this year and we could have him for another year later in his career.

Hopefully we recruit enough talent at QB in the future that this wont matter.

Don't know about VolSportsFan, but many of us were calling for Dobbs all off-season. We just quit calling when it was obvious Butch had made up his mind.

I wanted Dobbs to be the starter at the beginning of the year. Only my brother can confirm that for you, but its the truth. Hahaha, I've been calling him Riley for 3 weeks now. Guess you know now who he wanted starting.

From what we've seen Dobbs thus far, it would've been nice for him to redshirt and have him finish with the freshmen class. Think about it, it could've been Dobbs, Hurd, Malone and that bunch all together for 3 years.
If that's what Butch was trying to do, I like it.
However, we still have Dobbs two years, and we have good QB's coming in. So, it would be nice to know where we'd be if he had started the whole season. I think we beat Georgia and Florida, but hindsight, well you know.
I say finish the season strong, win a bowl, and win at least 10 next year.

I like Worley and feel had he been playing behind a good O- line he could have had a great year. However, with our defenciancies in the O- line this year, we needed a mobile QB from game 1. Had Dobbs been starting all season we very well might be 7-3 right now and in position to win the SEC East. Oh well, I really think we have a great shot at winning the East next season.
