Hunter Wilson/Daily News
A Western Kentucky University police officer keeps watch Tuesday during the WKU football teams practice session at Houchens-Smith Stadium. A university spokesman said police were responding to rumors there could be trouble during practice.
Western Kentucky University police were present at WKU football practice Tuesday, with at least one armed officer overseeing the field from the Houchens-Smith Stadium press box and two officers guarding entrances to the facility.
WKU media relations director Bob Skipper told the Daily News on Tuesday the officers were called out after getting wind of a rumor that some sort of disruption might occur at practice.
My understanding was that there was a rumor going around that there might be trouble at practice, Skipper said. So the police were there just as a precaution to make sure that nothing occurred.
Skipper said he didnt know the actual detail of the rumor, and wasnt aware whether police intended on being at practice for the rest of the week.
I dont really know any specifics, Skipper said. The officer I talked with said there was something floating around, nothing concrete, so they wanted to take extra precaution.
