A Western Kentucky University police officer keeps watch Tuesday during the WKU football team’s practice session at Houchens-Smith Stadium. A university spokesman said police were responding to rumors there could be “trouble” during practice.

Western Kentucky University police were present at WKU football practice Tuesday, with at least one armed officer overseeing the field from the Houchens-Smith Stadium press box and two officers guarding entrances to the facility.

WKU media relations director Bob Skipper told the Daily News on Tuesday the officers were called out after getting wind of a rumor that some sort of disruption might occur at practice.

“My understanding was that there was a rumor going around that there might be trouble at practice,” Skipper said. “So the police were there just as a precaution to make sure that nothing occurred.”

Skipper said he didn’t know the actual detail of the rumor, and wasn’t aware whether police intended on being at practice for the rest of the week.

“I don’t really know any specifics,” Skipper said. “The officer I talked with said there was something floating around, nothing concrete, so they wanted to take extra precaution.”

I haven't heard about that. I was on campus this afternoon here at Western and I heard "Rocky Top" blaring from the stadium speakers. I guess the football team was practicing and getting ready for how often they were going to have to listen to it, lol.

That was the only way they could practice without Berry taking all their footballs.:corso:

Trouble that requires an M16? Clearly an over reaction.

Unfortunately for WKU, Rod Wilks yelled "Game Time" as their practice started. The sonic blast caused a fender bender near the state border and 3 players soiled their britches. He laughed at the M16 and claimed that an M1 A1 would be called out if he screamed a Rick Ross Rhyme. No comment from WKU on the RW R3 threat.
