Ok, So Who is the QB Now.?

Dont know. But I think this is great gamesmanship by CJP. Can you imagine what the UAB DC is going through trying to game plan with four legitimate threats to start? Pure genius. More so when you consider that Pruitt has very defensible rationale for not naming a starter until just before kickoff. You know it is gamesmanship but it would be in bad form to call him out publically if you are the opposing coach.

I like Shrout. His delivery is a little longer than Maurer's. He has a great arm. Maurer has plenty of arm.

I like what I see out of both as far as potential.

PS- He reminds me from a passer standpoint of Nick Stephens. His career never got off the ground at UT but he could flat throw the ball.
Comparing them side by side from the stands, Maurer is more atheletic and a fired up high energy guy. Shrout seems more laid back and seems to have a beter grasp of the offense.

JG is no slouch atheletically or in arm talent but I feel his real problem this year is the new offensive scheme. He has not read defenses well enough to run Channey's offense. He misses many, many reads, very obvious if you're watching full field view. I think he is getting better but as far as knowing the offense, he is essentially a freshman too.

Maurer plays like a champ, Shrout looked incredible, Guarantano looked like we expected him to before this year. We have a QB controversy, right? Which one? Both QB's looked great tonight.

Lets start one of the walk ons, get them going! Spencer Smith.

I want to see Maurer for a whole game. We still don't really know what he can do. One good quarter then bad play and injuries since.
I might catch heck for this but, I don't think Maurer has played that great. He just didn't play absolutely, obnoxiously horrible and misread on almost every play as JG did early on. I think BM has improved each outing albeit a small sample space, all three qbs are getting better, Shrout looked lost on his first action.

He had a qreat quarter when he provided a spark and I also believe caught UGA off guard.

Terrible since.

I want to know if the good start was just an aberration or what he can do consistently. So far it's looking like one good fluke quarter.

Shrout was nervous vs. UTC. He looked composed against S.C. Big step up in one game.

There will be plenty of opportunities this year for both to show what they can do.

Are you really trying to convince people he has been bad since UGA? He’s been the same outside of a few bad decisions. He was killing MSU before he came out but had some trouble in the red zone. He was absolutely dissecting Alabama before he went out. To say he was “bad” is just flat out false.

Mauer made a couple bad throws in the MS State game in the red zone. But I think you're failing to recognize he led the offense into scoring position every drive but 1 in the MSU game. Gotta learn to take care of the ball better in the redzone, but overall he played well. Against Bama, the INT was completely on the WR who bobbled the ball. The next drive, Mauer drove us down for a TD. Then he got hurt.

The offense has quite clearly performed better with Maurer at the helm, and it wasn't simply for 1 half of the UGA game.

You'll only catch heck over it from the 3 stooges of the board!

Whomever they start, they'd better not take this game for granted ala Georgia State. UAB will come to play and they think they can win.

Maurer will be good. The biggest issue on offense was learning the new system. Chaney's offense puts a lot on the qb reading, pre and post snap. Early on JG really missread a lot and o-line play wasn't up to snuff. Shrout at this point seems to have the best grasp, but all three have improved. Another huge element has been o-line play and blocking in general. We are at times destroying good d-lines now.

JG is probably going to have some issues fielding the snaps with a cast and you never know how it will affect his confidence during the game. Maurer still has to have some questions with his health so I think Shrout probably should get the start and if he gets in trouble then you can fall back to JG or Maurer. If he can finish the game and play well enough to win, I think you have to start Shrout so the other two can heal.

I agree. But none one of the qbs have played great. The bad start happens who ever is at qb, there were a lot of things not right in the beginning.
Both Maurer and Guarantano got themselves hurt by slow reading of their respective plays. Get the ball of on time and they don't take the shot.
In the Carolina game Guaranto hits Callaway on a crossing route for big gain but the ball was late and a little behind or it would have been more. On the same play call later in the game, Shrout anticipates, leads the reciever and he goes for six, but he also threw what should have been a sure interception.

49%, 2 TDs, 5 INTs

Maurer is very good, those stats are not from a lot of playing time, the int. he had can be corrected, he is just a freshman. He is going to be a great qb somewhere, I hope it is at ut. But with this said, I was very impressed with shrout.
