Ok, So Who is the QB Now.?

Maurer if healthy is the best of the 3. JG may have played the best game of his UT career.... and Shrout was still the better passer. JG was still late several times.

The best illustration of the difference was Shrout's TD pass to Callaway. JG had thrown the exact same pattern earlier. It was thrown late and short. MC made the catch but had to fight a DB for it. Shrout hit him in stride.

JG did thrown medium crossing patterns better than I've ever seen him do by a long, long shot.

I was honestly surprised that Shrout didn't come close to throwing anything to the bad guys.

Maurer makes every throw the other two made plus RPO's and the hot reads.

I think if Maurer's healthy, he starts, then JG, JT. JMO....but really, after yesterday, I like our options. Everyone played their heart out. I almost feel like JG feeds off the success of the people around him. Who knows, I am totally surprised by what I saw. I will say this, I think we're all going to enjoy this ride with Pruitt, sure there are going to be disappointments, but it's turning around, right in front of our eyes. The fans yesterday, I've not saw anything like that in a long time....and really, there wasn't a big crowd there.

I tend to be the weirdo that watches the recruit box, just looking for reaction. I can tell you this...I saw a box that was pretty stoic at the beginning of the game. Late in the 1st quarter for the remainder of the game, they ALL were going crazy like the rest of the fan base. It was electric!!!

If we can keep playing D like we did last night in the 2nd half if won't matter who we play at QB.

We could get the WIN just kicking a FG then.

It would be nice to get known as Shutdown D U.

I'd love it.

VFL...GBO!!!

Yes, that will be great looking forward to, but our QB's also need to keep generating td's !

I think it’s Shrout based on health alone...and I’m cool with that...he played surprisingly awesome when he came in...

Honestly, if our OL, WRs and defense keep playing like they have been I don’t know that it matters which one you put in

LOL... someone else who thinks that "stats" by themselves tell a complete story. You have to actually watch and understand what they're doing to make an evaluation. There's a reason the coaches went to Maurer and appear to be ready to go back to him when he returns.

JG hasn't played really well all season. He shredded USCe because they're weak on the back end. UGA is not. Bama is not.

I like that whomever starts the game if he is playing badly we can go to someone else. I am looking for Shrout to start against UAB and think we'll see Jennings try to get him past the thirty five on every possession like this game. From the 35 if he lets it go long and is intercepted same as a punt and he can throw it 65 yards guy has an arm.

I think JG plays better coming off the bench maybe he’s one of those guy that plays better that way I know in b-ball a lot of guys does that.. but I think Maurer is the starter now

Well...we got the freshmen - Spencer Smith - Michael Bittner and Steven Orr. None of which has even smelled SEC stadium grass in their lives. But I assume since we've played freshman Shrout, we'd throw one of these guys in too if need be. Hopefully at least one won't get the jitterbug frights if we do. Jennings is too valuable as a WR to play him extensively at QB. But if JT goes out, and none of the frosh QBs can cut it, Jennings is then the only viable choice.

Ok thanks for clarifying that. I read a report online that I suppose the author missed Pruitt's sarcasm. When I read it I did hesitate and think to myself damn that kid is tough and Pruitt is a hardass. Lol

It was dripping with sarcasm from my seat. You could practically hear CJP's eye's rolling.

I mean, Maurer dressed out and warmed up for the USCjr game. It's coaching gamemanship. Pruitt is not going to give up too much information to next week's opponent if he doesn't have to. Smart a$$ answers and half truths will be the norm. Might as well not ask.

I'd assume with a broken bone that Guarantano is gonna be out the rest of the regular season.

Assuming all three were healthy I would let Shrout and Maurer fight it out or split reps despite the bounceback from Guarantano.

Shrout and Maurer both move better in the pocket and escape pressure better than Guarantano IMO. Think that helps extend plays over what Guarantano can offer.

Hate it for JG and think he has handled things like a champ but the other two are showing enough to be as good or better options, especially long term.

Plus red zone interceptions. It’s not as cut and dry as you make it seem. Shrout earned a spot in the debate last night.

This is right. When all the qb’s and even a duck thrown from J.J. are completed you would tend to believe the back end D has issues.

I thought Shrout read the blitz pretty well and made a nice run - I wasn't expecting that - yea, he ran out of bounds too soon. He only had one bad throw that I can recall and had several good throws. His toss to Callaway was one of the better we've seen in a while.

We don’t need Bailey that scholarship needs to go to a WR!
I watched an interview on the local news down in Atlanta with him a couple of weeks ago, and he is really stoked about coming to UT. He talked about following in Peyton Manning's footsteps and about helping rebuild the Volunteer's football program back to the top. I don't know if he will be as good as he is projected, but I hate to let someone with his attitude, along with the stars, slip away right now.

I wouldn’t disagree that Shrout made a case for himself. But he didn’t throw the higher risk throws. USC’s secondary also isn’t great. He is right there though if Maurer stumbles
