Watching UT play right now reminds me of the NBA all-star game. Up and down the floor, jack up 3's, flashy dunks and lobs, and matador defense. When we play a well coached team (W VA) we will be exposed, or find a team that has better shooters and are hot (TX) and we get destroyed. Imagine watching this team play the old Kevin O'Neill teams, taking the shot clock down to 0 before shooting. Like a Korean scat film, we'd get back-doored to death.

One interesting thing I noticed. If I remember correctly, during one of his post-game interviews last year (or maybe two years ago) Pearl climbed all over one of the players by name for lobbing a ball to one of the other players for an alley oop. Yet I've seen that several times in the last few games. Maybe that has something to do with the competition (I didn't get to see the Texas game), I don't know.

There's no bigger Kevin O'Neill fan in the world than me. That said, this year's team would beat Kevin's best UT team by twenty on a bad night.

This team right now is a doppleganger for the '00-'01 team. Talented, but neither organized not tough. We'll see if this bunch snaps out of it.

I think the 00-01 team played alittle better defense. Wouldn't you agree?? I know it was a different philosophy and team, but when a team shoots 50 3 pointers in a night you have to be somewhat concerned. We got dominated by a Texas team that wasn't more physical than us it just appeared as if they were smarter than us on that particular night. I don't know it just seems as if our team isn't the same team we had out there last year. I know from a talent and depth level we are better, but who comes in and helps us keep our focus?? Don't you think personally that we are missing that type of player and it may haunt us in SEC play??

Neither the '00-'01 team nor this one are going to confused with the '75-'76 Indiana or the '83-'84 Georgetown teams defensively.

Is it possible that Pearl wanted to give an open invitation for 3s....hoping that Chris wouldn't second guess his shot...trying to find one of our other offensive threats for 2 ... and instead, pull up for the 3 without hesitation? Pearl has commented that having the new firepower around him has made him worry about getting them looks and getting the ball to them so they can take their shots - and that has affected his game. Could this have been a team that Pearl felt he could begin to get Chris back into his groove by telling everyone to jack them up until further notice?

I see those comparisons too at this stage, but I think these are better kids who are hungrier than that squad. Jerry Green was aloof - it was toss it up and let 'em play. Pearl at least is involved.

Let's hope they snap out of it. Tonight would be a good time to start.
