I have a couple questions for you.

1. How did out BB team look and do you think the loss to Tx shook them up any?

2. How do you see the game on Saturday?

Thanks

1. The basketball team has some serious issues on the defensive end of the court. I saw nothing Tuesday night to indicate the Texas game operated as a wakeup call.
2. LSU will have scant interest in being there. UT should win.

Should? Now wait, you aren't gonna give a fearless pick? Come on Hat.

I just hope you still aren't in a funk like the 'Bama game.

Well I respect your BB knowledge quite a bit. Do you think CBP has it in him to fix that attitude?

I may be wrong about this, but based on what I've read of hat's over the last few days, the attitude problem he is most concerned about is Pearl's, not the players'. At least not directly the players'.

The quickest cure to the attitude problem is to give Josh Tabb a lot more minutes. When people see defending is the way to get PT, they'll fall in line.

I think the attitude problem is directly attributable to what the coaching staff emphasizes.

That's what I meant. Its not that Pearl isn't motivated or enthusiastic. Its that his attitude is fast tempo at the expense of defense, transition play, and perimeter shooting. All three of which, eventually, = a big fat L at the exact wrong moment.

You'd think they would have noticed this last year. He puts more effort in on defense as any one else does on both sides of the court.

Youth or scheme?

Why do people keep using youth as an excuse? This IS the same team as last year minus one. The scheme isn't any different and if anything, they should be more mature and much better at the scheme.

Take out Dane Bradshaw and insert Tyler Smith and a couple of others logging some minutes and it can't get much better....or shouldn't.

I'm just confused at the excuses people are trying to throw out there. No offense to you O+W=Heaven, it's a lot of people.

If this team doesn't make quantum improvements on the defensive end, they won't see the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament.

good point.

Besides Tabb, who else has played intense D that we could "promote"?

Crews has had some nice blocked shots but I haven't really watched him closely to see how his overall D is.

IMO he is limited offensively so he needs to bust his arse on D and the boards for this team.

We need to see Ramar and Wayne play like they actually give a care. I think Duke is will be fine, it's taking him awhile to get back to the condition he was in before the suspension. Even though Tabb isn't an offensive threat he brings great defense and effort. Cam Tatum is another player that has plenty of potential, the same could be said for Brian Williams. Childress is an overachiever on this squad and will give you his best. Howell would benefit greatly coming off the bench and having an outside shot, which Ramar doesn't. JuJaun is too streaky and needs to find some consistency, but does have great defense and will pick up some skills. Tyler Smith is going to be making alot of money in the NBA one day, but isn't up to the big expectations we've all placed on him. It will be interesting to see how he steps up against some quality teams. Chris is starting to regain his stroke. This teams halfcourt defense and low basketball IQ at times will be what gets them in the end. If they can correct that then they'll be definite Elite and perhaps San Antonio bound.
