Ohio's band

Unfortunately, the idiots that did the pay per view missed both bands at half time to take the opportunity to sell basketball tickets. Nothing ever changes at UT. SOS!

Why is this a post? Because it was the best thing to happen Saturday night besides getting a W and the rain stopping. The crowd roared more for Ohio's band performance than for any of our TDs.

I think it would be great if our band would start doing like Ohio's band did. Actually, what their band was doing is very hard to teach. It looks fun and is entertaining, but is really very difficult. They're called a high step band if I'm not mistaking. I think it looks really great!

It's really fun to watch! I was impressed. It takes a LOT of discipline to do that kind of performance and do it well.

I'm glad you have no power over our band. It would be a shame to watch our band become a mockery.
Yes we do a guest show every year. And yes, every year, it blows. It blew with Kenny Rogers. It blew with Patti Page. It will continue to blow.
But no show band like this could ever do Circle Drill. Not if they worked on it as their only show all season.

Actually I saw a video of them on youtube and they were doing a circle drill. Are you in the band? I love our band, but just think it would be very unique for us to be the only band doing this type of marching in the sec. And no, I don't think the quest show our band does every year "blows". I think the older generation enjoyed the one this past Saturday more than the younger people did obviously, but still, Patti Page was very popular back during her time. In fact, I'm surprised that this was the first time she has been to a game since she recorded "The Tennessee Waltz" back many years ago.

I put in my 4 years, therefor I am in a position to know what I'm talking about.
Bands like that play half the time they're on the field.
They have an instrument, but they run on the field without playing, they run around without playing, they bone each other without playing, and they run off the field without playing. The impressive parts of their show are done with nothing but a drum break.
There's nothing impressive about that. Oh sure, they played while they went from 1 set to another, but that was about it. They ran out, planted, and played.
I, for one, was ashamed they were allowed to visually defecate Shields-Watkins Field.

It was more entertaining than the product yall put out. If you want to hear musicians playing in perfect harmony, go see the orchestra. Otherwise, pipe down. We just want to see a good show. Ohio gave us one, Tennessee did not.

Crusse, why are you taking their performance as an insult? It was FUN TO WATCH. It has nothing to do with how good UT is.

Like I said, our show blew. Guest artist shows always blow.

But when you take time out of playing to hump each other, it devalues the band.

Whatever....
I think I, and most everyone else, thought it was great!

I would much rather have a band lead organized songs to get the crowd singing while we're on offense. That's much better

I'm assuming you didn't bother to search, but if you did, you'd end up finding out that I hate that this happens, and while I was in band, I made it a point to talk to the directors to fix it. They would have none of it.
If Rocky Top was started from the chorus, it would be played 1x through, and there would be no singing by the time the team broke huddle.

Thanks for all the kind words about the Marching 110. We couldn't hear much in the visitor's section, but it looked like a decent show. I'm glad they made the trip to Knoxville - we are very proud of our band. My head still hurts a little from sitting right in front of them! I very much enjoyed the pregame show and Southland traditions, as well. Well done.

The Ohio band was definately entertaining.. I didn't care much for their song selections at halftime, but the show itself was pretty good. The Pride's halftime show was pretty bad. I'm sure they all played their instruments well, but my god. A guy on the locker room on WVLT-2 pretty much hit the nail on the head. "We're trying to turn this place into somewhere everyone is scared to play and they're out there singing about a doggie in a window."

Blame Patti Page for recording the Waltz, and even more because of the Doggie song...

crusse i grew up loving the band. Here are my general feelings about it. We used to have a drumline performance at least for a few years prior to marching to the stadium. That was awesome but no longer exists. Ive been to plenty away games, and our pregame show is the BEST in the country as far as I'm concerned. Our halftime shows ALWAYS leave something to be desired, except for the circle drill. The best halftime show I have ever seen from our band BESIDES the circle drill was against Florida in 2006??? I dont remember the exact year but it was when Whiloit nailed a 50 yard FG, anyway during the show they made a huge train and made it shoot smoke out the the stack. Other than that and the cirlce drill our HALFTIME shows ALWAYS suck.

IMO, there is no better field band in college football than The Pride Of The Southland Marching Band. It is the crown-jewel of the Neyland experience.

If you like rap, watch the Jackson State "Sonic Boom Of The South" band... I think it's Jackson State, but whatever, that's some JIVE right there!
