An Ohio University student who also happens to be a diehard UT fan. I thought everyone might find it interesting to see how someone in my position feels about the game.

As you all can probably imagine, the passion for college football isn't the same in the MAC as it is in the SEC. There are no meaningful rivalries, no trash talking, (I really don't HATE any MAC school, especially like I hate BAMA/UF). I attend as many UT games every year as OU games (1). I should mention that I love OU, and hope for a win any time we are on the field (other than this weekend).

With this being said, the outcome I am looking for in this game highly favors UT. I wish the best for OU, as I always do, but I LOVE Tennessee football. It means more to me than OU football. I am really hoping that Crompton gets a boost of confidence heading into the heart of our SEC schedule, as well as another stellar defensive showing.

PS - I am making the trip to Knoxville and will be wearing a UT jersey with an OU hat. :)

I would disagree about the "no meaningful rivalries" part of this statement. Sure, it's not like OSU-Mich, or USC-Notre Dame, but there are rivalries. Ohio-Miami has been a rivalry for a long, long time. They are hated in a big way. If you don't hate Miami you probably haven't been in Athens long (or things have really changed there). My brother went to Kent and their rivalry with Akron is strong, as is Bowling Green-Toledo, and Western-Central Michigan. While not as intense and on the same scale as you may be used to from rooting for UT, they do exist.

Tuck Foledo.

And yeah, as a MAC fan and student, I do have to back up my conference a little. I suppose "meaningful" is relative, but our rivalries definitely mean something to us. Trust me, I hate Toledo and Miami every bit as much as you all hate Alabama and Florida. There's a saying in Bowling Green (which is in an extremely flat area and therefore gets quite windy.) "Bowling Green is windy because Miami sucks and Toledo Blows."

All that said, I am very much looking forward to sitting in Neyland Saturday night watching the Vols beat the crap out of the Bobcats.

Bowling Green is obscenely windy at all times. I make the drive from central Ohio to Detroit two or three times a year and don't even need to look around to know when I'm going through Bowling Green...white knuckles for about five miles.

I usually make a point of stopping though. In the mall there's a candy store that sells caramel apple Cow Tales. Those, my friends, are my fatal weakness.

(And screw Miami. I say that knowing that my mom is an alum and an old player of mine is on their team:blink:)

History of the Rivalry

The Battle of the Bricks is an annual all-sports series between the Ohio University Bobcats and the Miami University RedHawks. Founded in 1804 and 1809, both Ohio and Miami are well known for their beautiful red brick campuses as well as their competition in both the classroom and on the athletic field.

OU and Miami's first athletic meeting was a men's basketball game during the 1907-1908 season. Miami was victorious in that first meeting by a final score of 27-8.

Later in 1908, OU and Miami battled for the first time on the football gridiron with Miami coming away with the victory by a count of 5-0.

The modern rivalry began in 1947 when Miami joined Ohio U. in the Mid-American Conference. Since then, OU and Miami have been meeting several times a year in both Athens and Oxford to battle in athletic competition.

My sister went to BG, so I've been to the Doyt several times. Yeah, they definitely hate Toledo there.
