Oh These Guys Got My Blood All Angered Up Nation

Just to clarify, "Country Roads" is not WVU's fight song. Just like "Rocky Top", it has been part of the pregame show at WVU since the early 70s during which the "Pride of West Virginia" marching band forms an outline of the state. It is considered the theme song/anthem of the state. After the team scores, the band plays "Fight Mountaineers" followed by "Hail West Virginia", which are the WVU fight song/school song respectively. If WVU wins at Mountaineer Field, the John Denver version of "Country Roads" is played while the fans, players, etc.
sing the lyrics in honor of the state, the victory, and the team. As a former member of the WVU marching band, and huge fan of the "Pride of the Southland", both schools are steeped in history and tradition, and when I attend games at either stadium, I refuse to miss pregame or postgame traditions of either school!!!

If any of you are interested, here is the WVU pregame from 2016, but the only thing that has changed in decades are the uniform designs and the people wearing them!!!

Maddog, we're you part of this halftime show?

I wasn't part of that halftime show in 2011, but just like a timeless pregame show, there are certain halftime shows that get recycled and performed every few years. I marched from 1988-1991. I can't remember what season it was, and I'm not even sure if that WVU Armed Forces Salute halftime show was original when I had the honor of marching it, but it was a great experience and well before the YouTube/Facebook social media society we have now.

I was hoping to find that one. While I was not there, I remember hearing a bootleg of the show not long after.

After hearing that Split Open and Melt at the Knoxville 1996 show I was instantly a huge Phish fan. The Rocky Top encore sealed it.

WV can say all they want about Rocky Top. Bad thing for them is they will be hearing it a lot on Saturday! GBO!

Just think my friends......When we fill Neyland Stadium our famous stadium has double the population of the biggest town in the state of WV.

HAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAAHA!!!

When The Pride of The Southland plays and all of us in Neyland sing Rocky Top all those people in WV can probably hear us as the great song echos all through the mountains.

No matter what, I'll always love Tennessee, my Vols and it's ALWAYS great to be a Tennessee fan!!!!!

VFL...GBO!!!

MD, I love bands as much as anyone and I also never miss pregame, etc.especially since my son marched in the POTSB.
But facts have no place when attempting to denigrate ones opponent. 😁

Will be so nice to beat them and not have to hear anything about their stolen song about Western Virginia for about 20 years.

Did they really just compare Rocky Top to Country Road.? Oh hell naw that won't stand Rocky Top is EASILY the biggest anthem in all CFB. Country Road wasn't even John Denver best song.

Lets compare

Those goosebumps with do down in a few minutes

Now Country Road

Now you tell me which is better?

I can take trash talk but when you go after Rocky Top I take it personally. Rocky Top is the anthem of CFB and that's not up for debate.

Easy now.........nowhere near the "anthem" for college football. Anthem for tennessee, but that is all.

Who are these bozo's talking smack?...Hell they support a program that the SEC refused to take...Sorry WVU the SEC doesn't slum it...Oh man I hope we wax these big mouths...We might not be a big dog anymore but WVU never was....Period

I'm a huge Vols fan from east Tennessee (Knoxville) living in West Virginia. You are ragging on the wrong people - your own people. I am rooting 100% for UT, but West Virginians are no different from East Tennesseans. Demonizing W. Virginia is like demonizing your brother. They are not our enemies. We share more things in common than not.
