Oh NO, Joe! Say It Isn't So!

Miltons biggest problem is fear.

He's been hurt and he's seen lots of other people get hurt much worse.

He can't get the serious fear of getting hurt out of his head and just play the way his talent and potential says he should be able to play.

If he has the ball and a defender gets near him he'll crumble to the ground to avoid a big hit.

He jumped out of bounds to avoid taking a hit.

He's big and strong but he's simply scared to death whenever he's on the field.

He's good in practice because he knows he'll never get hit hard if he gets hit at all..

If he can ever get that horrid fear out of his head he might become a different player.

Many times when someone gets hurt bad they never come back to be as good as they once were because they can't get that fear of getting hurt again out of their head.

It's a sad thing but it's just a true thing that's a part of recovering from a injury.

I am glad we are developing choices at QB. I don't think a freshman can pass Hooker on the depth chart simply from a playbook perspective. I think we only used part of Huepels playbook last season and I am sure he is looking forward to expending that to 100% this season. One thing is very apparent about this coach, there never seems to be any major issues with the program, seems like everything is under control all the time. Cool, calm and collected and never seems in over his head.

Agree i said that last year it’s really the most logical reason for someone as big strong and talented as Milton to miss passes that he hits in practice… that red Jersey don’t carry over I seen it in the way he got tackles as well… I think he will benefit greatly from a sport psychologist to help him get out his own head during game day hard to do that because Qb is such a mentally taxing position… I haven’t given up on Joe though he still has time to be a good Qb for us.

We all know Hendon Hooker is the starting quarterback for the Vols. And who knows…true freshman Tayven jackson may earn the back-up spot. Jackson enrolled early this semester, and his skills have impressed his teammates and coaches so far in spring drills.

Said offensive lineman Addison Nichols:”He has done a fantastic job of learning the offense. I see him every night. we’ll sit in there and go over plays. He’ll go over signals. he has done a great job on the field just showing his athleticism. His knowledge of the game, and his ability to learn on his feet.”
Said quarterbacks coach Joey Halzle:”Tayven has been phenomenal. True freshman getting here early. He hasn’t had a missed call in team yet. He doesn’t call. Hasn’t called anything backwards or missed a protection call. He is completely dialed in to what we’re doing.” Source: Vols Freshman QB Tayven Jackson Appears to Shine in Spring Drills - WDEF

As a fan who hopes and looks forward to the prospect of Joe Milton being what he could be, this is both welcoming and shocking news. If he's beaten out by a freshman, I'm afraid that speaks of things that should not be, but simply is. If it is, hopefully, Heupel will not repeat his mistake of inserting the wrong alternate QB for games.

You love yah some “pay attention to me” dramatic thread titles dontcha, Karen?

Sheesh. We are extremely fortunate to have a QB of Milton’s ability as a backup. Esp. considering how often Hooker runs and being just one bad hit or plant from needing him as QB1. Heaven forbid, but if it does happen, we’ll be fine.

But go off La-Z-Boy Lombardi.

Wilco, you have proven your self to be nothing more than a saw-scaled viper following me around on VN, hiding under and among rocks to bite at every opportunity. And if no opportunity exists, you invent one. I encourage you to continue to exhibit what an immature, spiteful, and hateful little creature you are. Perhaps some parents on the forum will use your conduct here to teach their kids what not to be, and so raise their kids better than you were raised. Meanwhile, carry on, but it will be without my additional participation.

If you want to win the SEC you better have 2 quality QB's ready to go. It's hard to feed 2 big dogs but otherwise, you are 1 hit away from losing your offense. He has his proven QB but a quality backup needs to be molded.

I’ll never forgive him for running out of bounds with zeros on the clock. Never.
We all do dumb ****. I feel bad for him and appreciate him sticking around. I might about threw up though when he went out of bounds, he had it in him to truck some people
