It is always at this time of the year that I truly miss John Ward. I grew up listening to him and it was always the best. I could listen to whole game even if it was on TV, he did so much to make the game come alive on the radio. I wish he had never left.

we all do

So true. I watched his tribute on the last Philip Fulmer show that he did the other day with my wife. She was not a fan during that time and didn't really know why I felt so strongly until I showed her this video and a few others on youtube.

John was the best. I was wishing that Mike Keith would take over but we ended up with Bob. Bob is a nice guy but he calls the game as a news reporter. It is almost painful for me to listen to him, like watching grass grow.

John Ward was absolutely fantastic, UT won't ever have one better than him calling the games.

I grew up listening to ward call the games too and it's just not the same without him, neither is the Vols record since he retired. Wonder if John holds the keys to our success? Maybe we should ask him to come back for a year or two and see if we start winning like we did when I was growing up early to mid 90's. Just throwing it out there! GO Vols!!!

IMO, Mr. John Ward is the greatest announcer to ever put voice to microphone. There just is no other.

Chills.... Simply chills

And his last game was such a fitting end to his tenure. I never turned the TV volume on that night, delay or not

And the KING of the "dramatic pause".... Even the split second after he would say IN-terception or IN-complete.

He had passion like no other when he called games

What?

No love for Bob Kesling, with his monotone play-by-play and constant mispronunciation of players names.

I use to turn off the sound on the T.V. and listen to JWs commentary on the radio. Like someone else said, there will never be another like him.
