'25 OG USC transfer Emmanuel Pregnon (Oregon)

Can he play tackle? Do we really need another guard when we have Karic and Moe's? Easiest position to fill on the o-line.
You can never have enough quality OL. Especially in pass protection as evidenced this year. My only issue is he has just one year of eligibility.

As I said before, we will know how the staff feels about the younger OL by what they do in the portal. Apparently, we need immediate help, especially at IOL and pass protection. We pursued the kid from NW, Moe, and now Pregnon. Speaks volumes.

The fact that he only has one year also speaks to the way the staff feels about the younger OL. They don’t want to start guys like Ginther, Anderson, and Perry as RSFr., but they aren’t blocking a path to starting them as RSSo.

They’re high on those guys’ ceilings. They’re just young right now. You don’t want to have to rely on a bunch of freshmen and sophomore on the OL.

Maybe, but Johnson III, Reddick, and Grant will be RS Juniors. Umarov, Bussell, and Duncan have been in the system for two years. I'll give you Satterwhite, Anderson, Ginther, and Perry. Although Satterwhite will probably start at C this year. They were, however, early enrollees. It's time some of these guys step up and contribute.

I like CJH, but let's face it. The glaring reality is that no Heupel/Elarbee high school OL signee has made an impact at UT. This staff has consistently brought in transfers and JUCO players. If that's your plan, and it works, that's great. But let's not assume we're sitting on a bunch of young talent that just isn't ready.

The OL recruiting wasn’t good until the 2024 class. I still think Sham and LJ3 can be solid contributors, but Grant and Reddick are busts. I expect they’ll leave after spring. Don’t know about Bussell. Heard some good things about him last spring, but nothing this past fall. Duncan only switched to OL last spring after redshirting in 2023, so I wouldn’t pass judgment on him yet.

I think the young guys who will start this season are Satterwhite and Sanders. That’s a freshman and RSFr. Sham could win a starting job, but if he doesn’t, he’ll be a valuable reserve.

Ok ill un lurk for this one.

At some point they have to play them, period. Other teams do this regularly. Based on watching the top 5, it is speed, line talent, and play calling.

Likely starting a RSFr at C and a true freshman at RT. How many freshmen do you want starting along the OL?

Until our court case against the NCAA, the staff has been recruiting under a cloud of threats and negative recruiting. Even since then, they have been recruiting under restrictions. I suspect they've had problems getting the level of talent they actually want.

With 3 years of slow recruiting, you can only basically patch that through the portal, now that the staff has proven themselves and shown recruits that they can come here to a successful program that's competing for championships.

This has likely been a temporary issue, and the staff will likely not have to follow this way of doing business for much longer.

It's also not likely a reflection of their evaluation, recruiting, or development skills. It's likely just a reflection of them playing the hand they were dealt when they took the job.

I would agree, for the most part. Although they recruited other positions fairly well during that span. But the OL recruiting problem was addressed with the 2024 and 2025 classes. Got two good ones for 2026 already.

It’s been mentioned a lot that GE just isn’t a great recruiter. I’m guessing that the approach to OL recruiting has been adjusted as a result.

Ohio states line has been bad all season. Like us, they have been calling for their OL coaches head and recruiting in that area has been sup par for a few years. They have been serviceable in playoffs but are winning with elite playmakers and really good playcalling.

Notre Dames o line is in shambles and they are playing kids who haven’t took a snap since high school. They are winning because of bracket set up and breaks (playing second string qb at Georgia)

So, you can win with just an OK line if the other pieces (playcalling, playmakers, and luck) help out.

Not negating the value of the line- just looking at the two teams left.

This is spot on. With the probation restrictions, the OL recruiting was tough. I understand the concerns with Glenn BUT I would wait and see what happens with these last two classes with development.

It’s a real thing that most OL in SEC will need to be in your program for 3 years before starting. Not contributing but starting. You have exceptions like the Trey Smith’s and Sanders of the world. Being able to redshirt and develop quality talent is how to sustain an SEC O line. With what we’ve dealt with, it’s made the portal necessary so we can get the talent and now develop it.

Good post. Good responses to it as well. Coach Hype knows this is a LOS league, and his team and livelihood depend on those lines winning week to week. If either line coach is actually a liability and CJH keeps them on staff then he is a fool. I trust his judgment though.

I do find it a little concerning that folks say Elarbee can't recruit...but if he cannot then CJH surely knows that. The last 2 classes have been very good for the Oline in 24 and 25, so somebody is definitely recruiting these kids well. Perhaps Hype has surrounded him with assistants/analysts that are great recruiters in order to retain him and his ability to teach and coach? Its hard for me to see firing an Oline coach that landed the last 2 classes including Sanders, and has been a finalist for Oline COY award 3 years running. Seems like people who have actually played/coached the LOS at the highest level see Elarbee in a totally different light than some of the fans here see him. I played defense all the way through HS so I don't have insight regarding techniques on blockers. I have a pretty good understanding of defense though and like our entire defensive staff, especially Inge and Garner/Chop.

The next 2 or 3 years will tell the story about Elarbee IMO. As the 24 and 25 classes age into maturity in 25, 26, and 27 we will either see the Satterwhite, Warren, Ginther, Sanders etc come of age. As juniors those guys should be ready to take over and we won't need portal guys on the Oline except maybe 1 a year if guys are being developed and coached like they should. I think we are gonna be good and have a legit chance to win it all in 2026. Blessed to have our VOLS back at the top and fighting for a playoff spot every year.
