Ya.....I don’t really follow recruiting either. Just relating what @Freak and the rankings tracking thread says.
I honestly tho the ranking of recruiting is stupid. I think we did an outstanding job filling our needs
Was a joke.

Its funny how whoever has us the highest is the one some use and who has us the lowest others use. Saw it earlier with two guys arguing. Then the sites switched. Lol.

I pretty much only look at rivals. When I was helping Bucs football that was the only site the kids cared about. I’m sure there are others that are just as good though.

Honestly I don’t think coaches look at those sites or care about stars. I’d be interested in seeing a class ranking at the end of 4 years. Were these classes as good as advertised?

Didn’t Butch have 2 #5 classes.
Like I said. Rankings don’t really matter at the end of the day
I know he had at least one but I don't think he knew how to recruit for all of our needs properly. He also didn't know how to utilize talent affectively and he couldn't develop it either.

"Butch Jones lost out on two wide receivers from East Tennessee in Tee Higgins and Amari Rodgers in that class. As a result, after a disappointing 9-4 season in which an SEC East title was on the table, the fall of the Vols was becoming clear. Swinney, even after losing Watson, was able to use his elite recruiting to still make the playoff in 2017.

Then, in 2018, Swinney once again took a Tennessee football reject. Jones didn’t go after Trevor Lawrence despite him growing up a Vols fan. So, just like he did with Boyd nearly a decade earlier, Swinney took Lawrence."

Our best player JJ was kicked off the team by administration and coaches fired but still got a check.

Recruiting is a funny animal. Some say rankings and stars don't mean anything, but they want to know where everybody is ranked and if a rival is ranked better...oh it matters.

Top say rankings suck and don't matter, but if Kiffin was ranked better than us right now, it would matter.

Not busting just your balls, its everybody. I find myself feeling the same way, I just don't say much.

Rankings matter because skill matters.
The ability of our coaches to recognize and develop skill matters more than the opinion of a recruiting service opinion who doesn’t have to win anything. The recruiting services usually base their opinion on who offered the kids.

For example if the kid has a Bama offer he’s more likely to be a five star. Look at the history of kids jumping 1-2 star levels with a Bama or Clemson offer. everyone outside of the services thinks HB is among the best QBs ever and he’s a 4star because he’s a Tennessee commit without the Bama offer.

I’d rather we meet our needs than worry about star chasing.

But I digress.

If we recruit top 25 every year and CJP continues to develop like it appears he can then we will be ok.

rankings are a decent gauge of talent level and potential but they don't automatically guarantee championships. Plenty of schools have had top 5 classes and not done anything with it. Butch Jones couldn't even win the east after beating Uga and Florida. wtf

Agreed and with Clemson being in the playoffs for 5 years 2 rings and we are 9 spots back that is like 5 star's. With the guys Tennessee got I wouldn't trade any and 5 star's isn't crap(difference between Clemson and Tennessee ). I am going out on a limb and say the sleeping giant is waking up. Go Vols boon!
