Official UT vs UGA Game Thread

It was basically like watching a high school team play a college team. The youth and lack of depth that we all know about really showed up today. It has all year , but today was by far the worse so far. Art Evans should now be known as Fart Evans because of the countless number of whiffs when he is on the field. I noticed it last year as some others have mentioned. He's horrible. Prentiss Waggner is just as bad. He doesn't even get juked. He just runs past the ball carrier or dives on the ground and hand slaps an ankle. He's got 2 TD's and they were gifts. We have a ton of upperclassmen that won't see the field in the next few years.

We are bad. Shouldn't surprise anyone. It's what everbody expected before the season started. All the young talent gives you hope for the future. Nowhere to go but up! GBO!!!

On a side note ... how bad is LSU's offense?

Today is an excellent day for the realist haters.

I couldn't agree more. Keep burying your heads in the sand realist haters. Maybe today was just a bad dream. 3 games in a row not having 11 on a defensive play. Once understandable, twice there may be a problem, three times INEXCUSABLE! I blasted Wilcox last week. This week reinforces my opinion of him.

He'll get killed against Alabama. If they are going to make a change though now is the time, we have an off week for Bray to get ready...

Hard for me to think that one series against Gawja is enough to prepare for Alabama. Simms probably needs to be the starter for the Alabama game and use Bray if Simms starts making mistakes or playing like a deer in the headlights.

I have to really like Simms for his toughness. I cannot remember a tougher kid at QB in a long time. But for all that, his lack of upside is showing up. He continues to take sacks that he should not take -- he has zero mobility in the pocket, and still has not learned to dump the ball off to avoid the sack -- that alone has cost us a ton this year, and he is no better now than he was in game one.

After the Alabama game, we need to heavily utilize players like Bray and R Neal to get them the needed experience for next year.

Neal has another gear. I think he's got the speed that we thought Oku had. Did Oku get in the game today? I didn't see him.

I hate to see UT make GA look good, this was disgusting. We looked unmotivated and woefully unprepared. Someone right this ship and GBO!

Is it Justin Wilcox's schemes or is it just our lack of talent on defense? It seems like there was always a wide open reciever or TE for Murray to throw to today. Today was ugly, we gave up 41 points to a 1-4 Georgia team that averages 24 points a game! We could hardly move the ball against their defense! I did like the glimpse of Hunter and Bray today though. Im a true vol fan though so I am with them now and I will be with them when this team turns around in the near future! Go Vols!

That particular problem has nothing to do with Wilcox. We have a lack of SEC level players in the secondary which makes us unable to play nickel or dime packages -- and that in turn leaves us with linebackers and DE's covering folks that they cannot cover.

Simply a lack of SEC quality players.

The ship will not be righted this year -- at least not enough to play top level SEC talent every week. And face it -- despite their record, Georgia has far more SEC level talent than we have and they also have a lot more players (literally) than we do. That is something we will have to live with the rest of this year -- even the weak schools that we play will numerically have more players than we do.

Fulmer used to win against vastly inferior talent in Nov & Dec every year, enabling him to brag about "they remember what you do in December" -- well, guess what Phil?? They do remember, but after hearing that BS year after year, what they began to remember was that the only games you were winning were against weak opponents.

A new coach, playing shorthanded both in numbers and in talent can get away with that for a year or two, perhaps even more, but not a long established coach. Phil had to go, but Dooley will get a pass for this year, and probably for more if he needs it, because of the lack of talent he inherited.

We regressed this game, there is no doubt. I agree that both Prentiss and Art Evans are not SEC quality safeties, and both are badly lacking in fundamental tackling skills.

UT is a long way from the quality teams of the past, but I think that Dooley has us going in the right direction.

Isn't it just possible that the first halves against Florida and Oregon were the result of poor play by our opponents and that Les Miles tried to give us a game, making the 2nd halves against UF and OU and the entire games against UAB and Georgia who we actually are?

McIlroy (Ala) has been watching Simms too much -- he cannot remember how to get rid of the ball to avoid taking sacks.

Had you not named Dooley, I would have sworn you were talking about Fulmers' last five years.

Dooley won't be gone in two years. Hopefully, you will.

But you won't. Much like sand gnats, there's no getting rid of your ilk.

Nor are "fans" like you known for admitting they were wrong. You simply change your tune, and become a devotee of the winning regime.

Sad. Really.

Go Vols.

Yeah, there were so many positives out there today. It is clear as day that we're improving week to week. It's also clear that things like tackling and holding onto the ball are being shored up. Oh wait.

I don't know if you think I'm a Fulmer fan or not. I don't really understand the Fulmer comment. I wanted Fulmer gone in 2005 if not sooner. If Dooley has the team playing like they played today over the course of the rest of the year and into next, he needs to be gone. We didn't lose as bad as we did today because of a lack of talent. It was a lack of coaching.
