2011 NCAA Tournament: Vegas experts pick every opening game in West and Southest regions - ESPN
Michigan Wolverines (8) vs. Tennessee Volunteers (9)
Spread: Tennessee minus-2
"This is a classic tourney game that, in the old days, you would drool over. It's the not-so-smart Vols team vs. the ultra-smart Michigan team. If this had been played a month ago the Vols would have been a four-point fave. The line has been adjusted. However, it's on its way back up and people are betting Tennessee because the opener of Michigan minus-1 was silly. Michigan got better as the year went on and it was no fluke. I can't imagine Tennessee being ready for the 1-3-1 and the well-timed, constantly cutting offense that Michigan has and the other stuff John Beilein will throw at them. I made it Tennessee -1, but Michigan's home run efforts this year have been spectacular. I think Michigan is going to win the game because smarts can beat athleticism in the NCAA tourney. It wouldn't surprise me if Michigan runs them out of the gym.
ATS pick: Michigan
Straight-up pick: Michigan
Michigan really over achieved this year. They were picked to finish last in the big ten. They are the youngest team in the league and at one point 1-6 in conference play. Michigan finished strong led by sophomore point guard Darrius Morris (6'4) who loves to drive and use his size to his advantage. Also, Tim Hardaway Jr. (Fr) swingman is arguably their best player. They love to shoot three's and are not overall y athletic, but we do not beat ourselves. I find it humorous that many Tennessee fans believe that they will kill the Wolverines. This coming from a team who has underachieved all year. Michigan does have some trouble with teams that have bigs down low because they do lack some size; but they will defend well. I believe Tennessee will not be able to exploit this, since their tallest player is 6'9. Any way, Tennessee does have more athleticism but that does not guarantee victory as many on here claim.. My prediction Michigan 68 Tennessee 64. Then bring on them girls named Duke in the second round

"Dozens of times"?? Just how many games did UM play this year? Nothing like seeing cred lost in the first sentence of a post.
Last time I checked, they have played 35 games thus far this season, if you include the preseason. Nothing like losing your e-thug cred, unless where you come from a dozen is something other than 12...
I am still surprised that Michigan got in over Northwestern. This is the team that had back to back double digit losses to Indiana and Northwestern this season then followed those with a loss to Minnesota. The 131 is easily penetrated and should be exploited by Tennessee as long as we can do a good job on ball control. Williams should take the pressure off Harris and Hopson whom should have a field day.

although I am a um hater, I will give them credit, they have finished off the year quite well. They hit a stretch in the middle where they couldnt throw the ball in the ocean from an aircraft carrier (oh wait, that is MSU -v- UNC next year) but they came around about mid season, and are playing pretty well right now.Just an fyi, the loss to Minnesota was by one point, and occurred when they were still a ranked(or at least good) team, and the other two losses happened immediately following playing Ohio State and Kansas in OT
