Official Tennessee-Louisville Game Thread

Even the great Bruce Pearl can't change the fortunes of Tennessee basketball in the tournament. Worst game in 3 years, terrible decisions on offense and the d was just plain stupid. Repeteadly beat on back screens for dunks and easy lay-ups. I can't believe this team got their butt kicked by Louisville. What makes it worse, almost the whole nation was watching us lay another dud in the tournament. The Memphis game was the best we will ever see.
With that being said, it was a great year, one to remember. Thanks to Chris and JuJuan for great careers. They just couldn't change the Tennessee jinx in the NCAA tournament. I still can't believe we got our butts handed to us for the world to see. I can't believe Pearl didn't have any answers for the dreadful offense in the tournament.

What would you have done to make our offense shoot better?

I worry about this some as well...we really need to land Scotty Hopson. What will this team look like next year..it seems like we are going to totally have to change up our style... I wouldn't say back to the normal TN...unless you mean normal under Bruce Pearl...which isn't bad. But, it's hard to imagine how we are going to do what we did this year. Will Scotty make the difference if we land him?
hopson is a difference maker, but this is going to be a very good team next year whether he's here or not. much more consistent, better d, more paint presence, older across the board and potentially a PG. Hopson could put us over the top.

This team was not built for consistency or tourney play. I expect next year's team to lean more that direction. The beauty of this crew is that the returning guys have tons of experience in very tight games. Tyler returns with some strength on him, and we'll be tough to handle.

I would really like to hear some conversation about this. I don't know as much about basketball as I would like to...so that conversation could benefit me for sure. With Wayne improving and Tyler being Tyler, I like that part of our game, especially if West turns out to be an efficient PG (or if Ramar gets his head out of his rear). However, what about the guard situation. Is it all down to landing Hopson, or do we expect a very different style of ball? I suppose we will actually have a center next year?
To be honest I'm so tired and mad I'm sure I'll miss out on some key points, but IF Hopson comes combined with Tatum, and assuming Tyler comes back, that makes for a dangerous team. They say Hopson is better than anyone UT has right now, not sure how much stock to put in that, but he's pretty darn good.

Western Kentucky moves on...Man I hope Memphis loses. Living here will be a nightmare if they move on. Especially since I tend to run my mouth a llittle about how much better we are

Hopefully Chism takes it to the next level as well, if he does he's going to be a beast. Williams needs to develop some offense and wow. Putting the cart before the horse though, I just wanna blow off some steam right now.

I don't see how that is an upgrade...
bigger, quicker, better boards and dramatically better D, especially if we hit the weight room hard. Add tatum , tabb and real PG, we'll be better.

remember, the 3 is going to play less of a role because it's getting longer.

Try letting someone else besides Lofton shoot it. He should have been pulled after about the 10th miss. Pearl refused to take him out and he was a huge liability on the court especially with an obvious limp. Hell, why not let Howell try one shot. Lofton choked when he had an opportunity to show the country why he is so good. One of the worst played and coached games that I've seen in a long while.

I will root for UNC to crush the Cards.
Nah, Vol's gotta' pull for Louisville to win it all. It's over.....at least let them win it and let the Vol's hold a grudge for the bracketing....... that was obnoxiously OFFENSIVE . Motivation for next years "Pearl Run" will NOT be in short supply. Besides, maybe this keeps him here for an extra year....and that gives the Vol faithful another year to prove to him why he should NOT leave the Hill....EVER :salute:.....KEEP BUILDING, BROTHER PEARL !!! :pepper:

How about set a good screen to get somebody open. Louisville had wide open looks all night, we were driving into double coverage in the lane and getting it blocked. Also, guys weren't trying to come off screens and get open. Poor effort.

I know the men in stripes did not beat us, but I swear I think every time on D in the 2nd half we were whistled for a foul. But we got beat fair and square. But I do wish and I think that CBP would have liked to have Teddy V calling this game. I think Pearl is a big fan of him.

I'd rather have Lofton with one leg shoot then Howell

Still helps to have some kind of consistent outside threat... doesn't have to be Lofton-esque, but got to stretch out the d a little.

Having the guys slow the game down, not run and throw it at the rim, and do what we've done the last several weeks would have been a good start. Don't you think?

Instead of letting the person that takes the first pass take the only shot. haha

It wouldn't have mattered because we couldn't rebound and no one was hitting much of anything even when they were wide open.

Poor shooting isn't nearly the only thing to blame for the loss.

Louisville plays much better defense than Tennessee and Pitino is a much better defensive coach than Bruce Pearl. That's the difference as to why they were wide open and why we weren't.
