Official Statement from Jeremy Pruitt on Thompson

Has he admitted to saying that? Last I heard, it was one witness saying they heard that...likely through the walls of their dorm room. Maybe he did say it, but there's nothing concrete yet...so maybe it doesn't help having so many folks talking about it as if it was an absolute fact.

Sounds like he's got a temper and got into a loud argument and stupidly did some minor property damage. The rest comes down to what a couple witnesses may have heard coming from the stairwell likely through the wall or from a distance. Even if he said those things, it probably doesn't warrant more than sitting a couple of games and extra punishment off the field.
No. If he said something about shooting up the school and they do nothing about it, UT will feel the ire of the national media and its own fans. After what this country has gone through over these shootings there is no place for that. If he can’t deal with society without making threats then he needs to go.

If folks went to jail for saying they were gonna slap the *** out of you, my parents would have never gotten out.
I don’t think Bryce would shoot up the school. But if he said it and there witnesses to back it up, then UT may boot him. They aren’t going to take a chance on something like that.

From a legal perspective ,
domestic assault is the threat of imminent physical harm while battery is the infliction of physical harm to someone . So yes , he is guilty of domestic assault if he indeed physically threatened her .

So if a certain lineman from last year had used those same words would he have been charged?

I love how some people just assume what witnesses say is true and crucify the accused. AJ Johnson (although not the same circumstance criminally) was wrongfully accused of something, had “witnesses” one being his own dang teammate. Guess what happened? They were lying the entire time. Don’t assume he said he is going to “shoot up the school” based of ONE PERSON’S recollection of the argument that occurred. Bryce is innocent until proven guilty, how it should be. We need to support our student athletes in these situations until proven guilty, not the other way around.

That is a ridiculous conclusion. He didn't physically assault anyone and he wasn't waving a gun around while threatening to "shoot up the school." This is pretty minor and he will, unfortunately, miss a game or three but as long as he keeps his nose clean we will forget all about it before seasons end.

2 games sounds about right.

There's a lot of misinformation going around, so here it is in a nutshell from WJHL this morning:

"Witnesses saying they overheard Thompson threatening her, and one witness saying he threatened to, "Shoot up the school." They also stated they heard a loud crashing sound in the stairwell, presumably when the gate was ripped off."

The fact of his arrest likely means the course to be followed is now largely out of the athletic department's control. The misdemeanor is unlikely to be simply dismissed no matter what the GF says now. If he is well represented, if he has no record of similar conduct, and if the GF is cooperative, the charge will most likely be diverted and dismissed in the future assuming no further incidents occur while he's waiting for a final disposition and after he participates in some combination of counseling, public service and/or payment of costs. Right now, I'd bet his suspension will last a lot longer than one week. Missing games will be irrelevant to the problem.

The alleged vocal threat will almost certainly be handled by UT disciplinary authorities and there is no telling what will happen. If it is corroborated there is a significant chance he will face expulsion or at least suspension from school. It's unlikely that he really meant it, if he said it, but in this day and time everyone in government and academia are walking on egg shells. I doubt any administrator is going to say "no problem."

The lesson to be learned by other similarly situated young players, who I hope are watching, is, don't get into a situation that has any chance of getting out of hand. When chaos starts, walk--run-- the H*** away before you risk ruining your immediate future when you cannot control your temper---whether your reaction is "justified" or not, it is not worth the risk.

It blows my mind how this concept is lost on people, especially a certain few yesterday. If BT did do something that warrants him being dismissed then I will stand by the coaches and administrators almost all of the time. However, of its some Title IX BS that’s left up to an honor board, I am and will remain very skeptical. There have been far too many examples recently of being falsely accused and convicted by peers for a variety of reasons only to be overturned by actual court.

Perfect example.......

Tennessee Vols' Von Pearson will not face charges after rape investigation

They suspended him before he was even charged. This really needs to be well thought out on the school's side before they decide if they want to try and boot him or not.

I wonder what the UTAD spends on training and seminars and speakers on exactly this kind of crap?

Make good choices. Plain and simple.

Play dumbass games and win dumbass prizes.
