Official Statement from Jeremy Pruitt on Thompson

"The safety of all students is our first priority here at Tennessee." That part doesnt sound good. More the concern about the shoot up the school remark in this day and age but then I dont think anyone actually witnessed him saying that but simply overheard someone.

I would expect the suspension until the case comes to the docket. Isnt that in early Sept? If they drop it for lack of evidence and based on what I have seen I dont know how they could do much else - still a question if the school conduct board etc will let him back on. I am sure Pruitt will get the facts and then push for him to be back tho if what is reported is all there is.

"Bryce Thompson is suspended indefinitely while the process continues. We hold our student-athletes to a high standard. The safety of all students is our first priority here at Tennessee."

Perfect comments. Saves face in two ways. Puts light on how the school holds its athletes and a second light on them ensuring the safety of all students. While also giving them room to conduct everything and at the end if nothing is viable they can state that they took all measures to ensure student safety etc.

He gone!

Pruitt gonna set an example, I'm afraid.

He had a player who at one point was charged with 2 felony’s and is still on the team.

Bryce Thompson was charged with a misdemeanor and didn’t actually assault anyone. He was charged because they thought he “might” harm someone.

He isn’t gone. Lol

If the comments about shooting up the school are corroborated by witnesses, the university has no choice but to dismiss him. In this day and age, there is absolutely no room for comments like that. It's no laughing matter and certainly not the type of comments to be made in a domestic dispute. The university will be raked through the mud by the media for months for not setting an example. Not something Fulmer wants on his watch as AD and certainly not something the University wants to be in the news for.

Now, if there is any room for doubt in witness statements, then what I just said is a moot point and he needs to be reinstated.

That is a ridiculous conclusion. He didn't physically assault anyone and he wasn't waving a gun around while threatening to "shoot up the school." This is pretty minor and he will, unfortunately, miss a game or three but as long as he keeps his nose clean we will forget all about it before seasons end.
