Official Rocky Top League Thread

always thought Moore and Edwards should've played more. Edwards D held him back early but he was too big of an offensive weapon to have on the bench when we were scoring 38, 39, 40, 41 points some games. He could've been an 8-10 pt scorer with the right system.

@Ben_Fred: I was writing during the last RTL game but @averytjennings said Kevin Punter was the best. Dropped 46. Sedalia stand up!

SD, for real, you really can't make any serious judgments about the players' abilities through RTL play. Dudes are just having fun and putting on a show. Just an FYI if you didn't already know :hi:
Say that again! Looks like the GoVols blogging crew made a whole lot of judgments. Boy, were they excited! Three games decided by a total of 6 points. That live blog was awesome! Start at the beginning of game 1 and read all the way through!

He may not have realized just how accurate it was at the time, but Devon Baulkman’s pregame assessment of Pilot Rocky Top League and Tennessee teammate Willie Carmichael was spot-on.

“He likes to dunk everything,” Baulkman said.

And soon, everyone huddled inside Knoxville Catholic High School for the Rocky Top League’s opening night discovered just the same.

Carmichael lives up to billing in summer league debut - The Daily Times: Sports

Is there any video highlights? I'd especially like to see Mostella dunking.
And what about this one?

Brandon Lopez can get up. Just corralled a loose rebound and soared for the one-handed jam. Tyndall says he'll get a chance this season.
:)

Rocky Top League Comissioner Andre Whitehead said “We try to keep it light. I’ve always called the league pick-up basketball with uniforms and referees. The reason we do it is because it’s great for the community. What I call the core fans come out, the fans who can’t afford season tickets, the people that don’t go to Thompson-Boling Arena. When you do go, those guys are larger than life and you can’t see them. Here, you can see them and you can talk to them, get an autograph or a picture with the kids. And the guys are great, they’re very personable. All of the coaches are pretty much friends, they’re all guys that have coached on the high school, college and even professional level, so they’re all basketball guys.” Whitehead, now in his seventh year running the league, told The Daily Times.

I'm with you on Lopez. Did not make enough mistakes in the '12-'13 season playing back-up PG to warrant strictly garbage time minutes in '13-14 especially with Barton disappearing for stretches at a time. He may not be a dynamic, lights-out, 15 ppg, 12 apg guy. But he is a mistake-free, solid point guard who I believe could've corralled the offense a bit more last season.

I agree. I thought he could have given us good minutes last year.

It's called coach speak bro
Here's the actual quote from Coach T himself!
After only two basketball-related workouts, Tyndall has also identified another option. That would be 6-1 senior walk-on Brandon Lopez, a veteran of 31 career games, 17 of those coming in 2012-13. “I think you can play Brandon Lopez three or four minutes a half,” Tyndall said. “He can be safe with the ball. Our players respect him. I could see him getting six, seven, eight minutes a game, two assists, one turnover, maybe make a couple of foul shots. He’s a senior and he’s paid his dues. One thing that stands out to me about the kid—when you walk in the gym for workouts, he’s a guy who’s there early getting shots up. Every day he’s busting his tail and giving great effort. I think we’ll end up trusting him a little bit.”

Mistake free?

8 minutes a game ain't that far from that double digits you said he'd never get. Oh, I forgot! You said he'd never get a scholarship! Get ready for that big announcement to Vol Nation. It will be the coup de grace of the Tyndall turnaround! Take it to the bank! The timing is critical! Will be a little while! You are delusional if you think Richardson is going to the point!

I never said he wouldn't get a scholarship, I even said if there's one open he should get it, nice try though bro.

Brandon Lopez getting a scholarship is not a "big" announcement..hate to break it to you. You act like he is the next coming of Chris Paul or something. If he gets a scholarship good for him, but its not like we are glued to the computer waiting for a "big" announcement as you called it

Do you remember? It is sort of ironic that you accused me so many times of being senile that you can't remember yourself!
Your quote of 5-10-14 in the Who is this PG? thread:
"My position is Lopez won't be on scholarship and won't play meaningful minutes for Tennessee next season."

And I went on to clarify that if there's an open scholarship, he likely would and should get it, so get fetch.
