In all I think it was a good game. I'm a little worried about our D, not sure if it was just the first game or what but D seemed exploitable.

As for offense our run game looks miles better. However Dobbs did not excite me much. There were a couple times when he would scramble and instead of making the short pass to an open wideout he would try and pick it up on the ground when he had a good number of defenders on him. I hope he doesn't automatically rely on his running and is a little more cognizant of his passing options.

As a whole I think we've improved a good bit but I'm not sure what that means until the OU game.

Work in progress. Turns out butch is right... We do have a ways to go. Not all bad mind you. But certainly not all good. Medley and secondary biggest concern leaving that game

agree on Dobbs. I have not written the D off yet . This was a really good , dynamic offense they faced that many expected to score some points . Add to it that the Vols played very vanilla defensively . They seem to have started looking ahead and relaxing when they jumped out to a quick lead . The mark of a young team .

Better have a solid week of practice. I know the Boomer QB is not as good as the BG QB. Medley needs work and our DB's need reps. We will play better D in Neyland! Go Vols!!

I am not as freaked out as a lot of people likely are. I felt like someone kidnapped our O-Line and replaced them with their older more experienced twins. Oh waitthis is a year later isn't it.

Ther problems on D are totally fixable. I think the one huge mistake made was waiting until last night ot tell the team that Martinez was suspended. they should have told them as soon as they knew osthey'd be prepared. I mean seriously he gets suspended and we have problems in the secondary? If u can't see a direct correlation I dunno what to say. I get what Butch was going for tihnking it might motivate them. He comes in and says he was hit by a van that happened to containthe starting lineup of Bowling greens WR's then yeah they are gonna tear off heads. Not when he gets suspended for a violation of recruiting rules.

At 59 points the Vols will likely finish 2nd for points scored on the first week in the SEC.

BG very likely in the top half in terms of quality of opponent as well for the opening week.

On the flip side, will likely end up as the SEC team that gave up the most points

Secondly, people are not giving those guys (BG) enough credit. That is a good offense they have.

On another note not related to the defense, Hurd, Kamara, Dobbs, or KMac...

John Kelly looked really good for a 3rd string RB. He was very quick and had some very good runs.

I'm not worried about the defense after the first game. Remember when we thought our defense was going to be great after we beat NC state our first game a few years back.

I don't understand waiting till the last minute to tell the Secondary there coach is out for the game either

especially since CBJ knew about it,you know it had to affect the players big time, you could tell that by the way they were playing

Oregon gave up 299 yards and 21 points to Eastern Washington in the first half. Ergo: Oregon sucks! :eek:lol:

If you paid attention during the NC State game though, you knew there were problems with busts in the secondary.

Jancek was a questionable hire from day one for Butch (just like Bajakian), and unfortunately, he's not doing much to assuage those fears going into this first game of the season. Even with the injuries and the lack of the DB coach on the sideline, we let a MAC team run about 4 plays and shut down defense as a whole. Maggitt and Barnett were both completely neutralized the almost the entirely of the game, and that proved to be the silver bullet against us.

Oklahoma, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, and possibly even Kentucky and South Carolina are going to prove hard to stop given current state of Tennessee football.

Vandy is at dumpster fire that even the pure urine of Christ Almighty couldn't put out, so we are still good there...

Hopefully, everyone is giving BG their props. Like it or not, we as fans, underrated this team. We overrated our defense and rated our offense about right.

1st game. Lots of coachable moments. Nothing that can't be improved.

GBO!!!

Yeah, that game was more about the euphoria of finally winning one in Atlanta, and the excitement
over the offense and CP. I was there, the defense was not very impressive.

THe Offense looked darn good. I dont we showed much of the playbook so of course it looked a bit boring with 2 handoffs to Hurd, one to Kamara once in awhile a Dobbs sneak, rinse and repeat. Even so, they looked mighty good at that cycle and it is surely to be the backbone of our offensive play this year. Add in the few throws that Dobbs did throw looked like they were on a rope and I have a lot of good feeling for this offense this year. All the more so since the Oline held very well - at least against this D.

Now our Defense really was sorry. Not much else to say but that maybe I had bought into the hype a bit too much. Yes I know BG is a solid team, MAC east champ, etc. But there were a couple of times we gave up plays because we did not look motivated. Granted, I will say the impact of Martinez being out for the game was probably the most significant factor and once we had some time we did make some adjustments. But this D line is supposed to be imposing. We will have to be a LOT better if we are going to have any success going forward.

How would you say the secondary had problems. 4 interceptions that game. Only allowed one passing touchdown so PAY ATTENTION!!!

The o line looked better than expected. I doubt they will be all world but they should be serviceable, and that's all we need from them.

The secondary is now a huge concern. BG was eating us alive on the deep ball for a good portion of the game. The coaching staff needs to get that unit fixed fast.

Overall I'm sticking with my 8 to 9 win prediction.
