I'll be honest. I expected to see a bit more from the defense.

I did too, but I think we need to temper it a little, they are learning new techniques and by reports were fairly raw fundamental wise.

Overall the offense did a little better than I thought. Oline wasn't totally horrible and tight ends surprised me. Receivers made some nice catches.
Defence will get better,I think it's a little bit of a new system,new coaches and being just a step slower because they are still a little behind in learning.
When fall practice starts all the players that didn't play today will be ready to go and the freshmen will be here. I guess I lean more to the positive side and can see this team getting 6-7 wins this year.

Some of you McBride fans are ridiculous. If you watch in person you see JG’s decisions, arm strength, game management and leadership is head and shoulders above him. Watch between plays and off field also. There’s no comparison who the leader is and who at least shows he’s here’s to give 100%.

Impartial observer here. JG looks much better. Doesn’t mean JG looks like the next Cam Newton, but he looks better then McBride.

I’m guessing McBride was nervous. Even when the QB’s were warming up you could see his body language was a lot different than JG’s. That being said, I don’t think he will seriously compete for the staring job.

Of course he won’t, never was. Didn’t need today’s game to know that.

JG has looked good but has anyone else noticed that his delivery is slow. It seems too deliberate.

This has been true since day One. It looks as much like a baseball delivery as it does one for a football.

If your going to play for Pruitt your going to have to be a tough player, a player that plays with effort. It's refreshing to see a coach that is going to demand it by the way we practice and what it takes to be a starter. Better hit that weight room guys, nobody is safe. GBO!!!!

Here some of my takeaways from being at the game.
1.) defense played soft up the middle. That gets you killed in the SEC.
2.) JG had a pretty good day, the most impressive thing I took from
his performance was his intellegence at the line. He checked into a couple of protection calls that were exactly what the O-line needed to be in. Mentally he absolutely is ahead of what he was last year (it's not close).
3.) defense had some alignment problems... ANYTIME you misalign a big play will happen, and it cost them twice and Shannon Reid saved one from happening.
4.) WR and CB were the most crisp groups out their.. O-line right behind them. Their routes looked pretty crisp. They didn't lose a lot of hidden yardage.
CB's they played better than I expected them to play... Obviously anytime you give up 30 points it isn't a great day but they played the ball whenever they were in phase and played the ball through the man whenever they were out of phase. Osborne impressed me and I thought Buchanan should get atleast an honorable mention for most improved defensive player... It is amazing what can happen whenever you let your CB's be physical.
Shamburger did some nice things, but didn't get the ball thrown his way a lot.

Obviously they were sloppy and had two or three busted coverages but they have improved a lot from what they were. I wouldn't be surprised to see theo Jackson get some more looks at maybe the star postion or the dime.. He has good ball skills and good range.

Short synopsis...JG looks more comfortable. I still don’t like the fact he stares down his target. Quarte Sapp lookin good. Most impessive player for me was Jeremiah Howard, he’s going to be good.
