Official OC search update thread...

This is my first post so take it easy on me. Ive been a long time reader (starting during the Gruden hire era) and have finally decided to join the conversation. I want to start by saying I am not claiming to be any type of insider. "My Stats" are: I work in marketing in Florence AL, and work often with the Anderson family. Me and Terry talk football often. Any time you run in to a VFL in Bammer it's a great day. I have no idea what type of influence he may or may not have but the info that I wanted to pass along is that he's does not believe per our last conversation that Debord is the hire and certainly does not support it. His opinion may not mean crap but it is good to know that at least one booster is on our side. Well at least for those of us who believe we could make a better hire.

Welcome to the board.
I live just a little north of you across the state line.

You know I thought that too . but then I got to thinking if I had a kid leaving to go play football at a big time university. I would want his coaches to be experienced he would know how to help your son adjust to that life.with age comes wisdom .

That's a valid point but ultimately it's the kids choice unless you are on of those overbearing parent types.

Find me one Michigan fan that thinks DeBord was or would now be a good offensive coordinator. Good luck its not going to be easy. Michigan fans do not like DeBord at all. There has to be a reason and its not because he's a great coach.

Find one UT fan that thinks Randy Sanders was a good OC, yet Kentucky and Florida State both gave him a chance to help call plays. The next option is always the best coach/player when it comes to fans.

That's true as well hargraves . bye the way I have been reading g your post for a long time I was a lurker on VN for a long time before I started posting it I always likes your user name . but anyway kids always at least listen to there parents input and it never hurts that he has a championship ring to flash as well .

Few updates and more speculation, shocking haha. If DeBord were the choice, he would have been hired already. For those of you speculating that he is only waiting because he knows he is not a good coach and he is trying to save recruiting, that is absurd beyond words. Here is CBJ's thought process with that theory: "I know DeBord can't coach and is a terrible OC, but I am going to hire him anyway and jeopardize my own career because I once coached with him at CMU." Brilliant theory isn't it, now he may get the job but I would suspect that it is because he is interviewing others and has a few candidates in front of him that will need to turn down the job first hence the delay in announcement.

Odd since the two I know thought he was a good OC. Maybe you have a more extensive bunch of Michigan fans to consult.

He did get them a National Title. I know the great defense line but the RBs averaged 4.5 ypc and Griese had a 140 QBR, so the offense wasn't terrible. The year he came up short versus Ohio State for another chance to play for a National Title, the offense was pretty highly rated statistically.

Guess so if you only know two Michigan fans. A NC 18 years ago really doesn't count for much now. Wonder how many NC winning OC's over the last 20 years are still successful OC's. That would be an interesting stat if I had time. If he's so good someone would have hired him to be their OC by now instead he has a job in no revenue sports. Michigan fans don't want him anywhere near the fb program. DeBord is a Michigan man and none of the last three coaches offered him a spot. Sounds like a good fit to me.

Sanders was an absolute disaster of an OC, the main reason our program started to fall apart, and then later was only hired as a position coach at an SEC doormat. I'm sure he's grown as a coach in the years since--but he was terrible with a capital T.

Being a VOL working in Muscle Shoals, I feel you pain with being surrounded by the bammers. Welcome to the board.

Instead they hired Rich Rodriguez who went 15–22 the worst record of any head coach in Michigan history.

They chose the sizzle instead of the steak and got burned.

And firing him was the worst decision Michigan football had made up to that point. You don't think I would have rather watched a Hoke-coached team than RR in year seven this year, do you?

I feel for you guys in Bammer land. Every time we go to Florence, as soon as we cross the state line, my son always asks if we noticed something suddenly started stinking. Lol!

Keep in mind, despite all this, we continue to get top recruits committing and no players decomitting. As I said, butch has a plan and he will see it through. No matter who is the OC, it will be butches play book with tweaks. He is a man of consistency and if you want tennessee to win the east, an easy transition in offense is what they need. All this is positive stuff.
