I read that Norvell makes $900k already and won't leave for less than 7 figures. His hire would probably create a rift in the staff because he would double the salary of the DC and everyone else in staff. Hart would have to be willing to give the entire staff raises in addition to a $1 million salary for Norvell.

The idea that assistant salaries would be a stumbling block absolutely pisses me off.

Yeah no way that happens. Bajakian was making 480K I just don't see them ponying up that much cash (seven figures) for an OC.

Wait. If DeBord has already been chosen, why are they still interviewing? I mean the board has already had a semi-meltdown... they have to hire DeBord now, don't they?

Due diligence I suppose. Debord was probably the one Butch immediately thought of as soon as he heard about Bajakian. Supposedly he had a 48 to 72 hr window before the news broke on coach Jake. A lot of the candidates are still putting together their recruiting classes Debord was not, so thus the first interview was easy to set up with him. Supposedly Debord hit the interview out of the park and really connected with the staff and the players. At this point it would take a lot for him not to be the guy and at bare minimum he will probably have some role at UT if he wants it.

Yeah, he is a really intriguing candidate. I read, however, that Vanderbilt offered to double his salary and he turned them down. So, it may take a good deal to get him. Of course, this job has to be more attractive than the Vanderbilt one, despite what alot of the low bar setters here like to say.

Considering what VU has on offense I don't blame him. He has ties to mason but he's no idiot. The OC job there is terrible as vandy is in a skill talent coma.

Meh, salary at Vanderbilt is pretty much a one to two year deal where you have to make chicken chit into chicken salad. Hard to be successful and build a resume in that environment.

If it is Debord I wonder if we ride it out until after NSD. I would if that's who I really wanted. Unknown could be sold countless ways.

Meltdown doesn't really matter until the results on the field. If Jones feels he is the guy then he is the guy for better or worse. It doesn't matter what the VN court of public opinion thinks of the hire right now, it will however matter at the end of next season.

I think you guys that are crying about Butch already selecting Coach D for the OC position are way off the mark. It is very possible that D ends up with the Vols coaching the OL, and that it would be a great hire. My call is that Butch offers the OC position to Mazzone first, and that would be the best available choice for the Vols!
