Official OC search update thread...

I'm tired of griping about that which I have no control over. I survived Dooley. There's no way this can be as bad as that.

Dammit Doyle! Don't say stuff like that! You're tempting the football gods. If we do bad next year, I'm blaming you!

According to Ole Hyamms, Helton is also now out as a candidate for our OC. The list is getting shorter and shorter, especially those that we were favoring. Wonder if its a money issue?

I believe that Jones had made his mind up this past weekend when DeBord visited Knoxville and UT (staying at Jones house didn't hurt his chances either).

The "exhaustive search" and "other interviews" have been nothing more than window dressing so that Jones can say "after an exhaustive search and multiple lengthy interviews, DeBord is the "individual" that I believe is the best fit to be the next Offensive Coordinator". "Trust that I have made the right decision since I am the caretaker of the UT football program". Brick by Brick etc etc etc etc.

I just dont see how he would be such a great fit considering he has never coached, called plays for, schemed the spread option offense that CBJ runs. In addition the guy has not coached in college for going on 8 years nor has he recruited high school football players in that same time frame. If DeBord is such a great coach why didn't Harbaugh hire in some capacity? I mean he was sitting right there administrating olympic sports.

Yes indeed, Good D with a "paltry" O, will take you as far in the championship hunt as Ole Miss this year... ah dang.

Ok then, I am crushed back to reality . 3-9 is our best hope . I hope we manage to maybe possibly out score vandy . Thanks for opening my eyes to the horror that awaits us in '15 .

Just speaking for myself here but I won't be jumping off any ledges if it's DeBord. Everything seems to be pointing to him being the hire. I'm not happy about it, but there's really nothing I can do but sit back and hope for the best.

Nailed it.
Not excited either. But just as Debord isn't in the oc hall of fame, I see nothing to suggest a complete freak out.
I plan on watching all games this season.

You totally misread that.
My point was if Debord was so bad, UM wouldn't have a title even with a good D.

Honestly charger , just having fun . we will do better than 6-6 and barely squeaking out a bowl . I don't care if Butch is the hc and the oc . Their is a lot of talent now that was not there during the past few seasons .

:hi: I was just thinking maybe I did sound all chicken little.

If it's Debord, while not exciting, I think he is capable of running our O and possibly improving the run game..

Butch is paid the money to worry about this stuff. Grab a beer, sing rocky top, and let him do his job and bring home championships.

I might would make a sacrifice for a run game that does not get the RB hit behind the line of scrimmage . That has been going on for far too many years .

Chaney was a good pass caller , Not really sure what Coach Bajakian was trying to do . Chaney of course had Brays arm to rely on . Still not sure what jake was doing . But we got some Hurd and some Kamara and North and Smith and Croom and and and ... The future is bright .

Edit : Not being an SEC coordinator , I will probably never understand .

Question ------ Upon what do you base your opinion that DeBord "is capable of running our O"?

Has he "coached/taught" the principles of the spread option offense? or more specifically Butch Jones' (or should I say Rich Rod's) version of the spread option offense?

Yeah, dislike him or indifferent, that statement is valid.
Not sure any of us know for sure.

I liked Chaney but never understood his repeated attempts to throw the long ball on 3rd and 1 or 3rd and 6 inches - occasionally you can catch the defense sleeping but it isnt a high % play.

Just an opinion. I haven't found our offense in the "reinventing the wheel" area. He has seen more than his share of FB action but the main thing is - unless he is completely inept, he can follow instruction.

Like Sabans D, with any degree of understanding, you can fill the position and hopefully bring something to the table.

There is an occasional disaster but despite the "oh my gawd" posts here, I don't see a real high probability of that.
