Official New Coach Thread Of The Tennessee Volunteers? (merged)

WHOA....we need to keep this in mind, we are having SkipHoltzitis....

Do me a favor and look at the last 4 classes for Texas Tech....there are 4 TOTAL recruits in the Top 25 of each rankings.

Michael Crabtree was a 2-star athlete which I understand he took a talented kid and made him a superstar....but to me honestly that is not going to do it at all.

He recruits a ton of JuCo guys, and these classes would never beat UGA, UF, LSU and Bama year in and year out.

To me he can not sell this, instead he just had a great victory, and if he honestly losses to OU and maybe the Big 12 game or a Bowl Game, he will be back to the pack with all the others.

I can't think of anyone right now, but then I typically don't follow coaching careers typically. My question: is there anyone out there with ties to Tennessee that would not be part of the Fulmer family/mold/clan?

Gruden, who we have no shot at.

How can anybody say Leach's offense won't work in the SEC? That offense beat the number one team in the country.

actually Crabtree was a 4-Star Athlete in 06. He was listed 2 spots above our very own Vinson.

Scout lists him as a 2 Star WR but Scout doesn't really know what they are doing when it comes to football.

I don't know much about Peterson, but I know you must be one hell of a recruiter to get anyone decent to come to freaking IDAHO

I don't think your definition and a WAC fan's definition of "recruiter" would be the same. He gets good enough players to win in that conference, but don't forget he lost to East Carolina in the Hawaii Bowl last year. They did beat Oklahoma the year before in the Fiesta Bowl, but I don't think you were seeing a very geeked up OK team to be playing Boise St in a bowl.

He runs a pretty balanced offense for a WAC program. It'll be interesting to see, should he come to UT, whether or not he can be successful. If he can bring his staff, I think he could be a good choice. But then again, you guys don't need any stinkin' offense after the numbers you put up this season:whistling::whistling:

There was a lot of discusssion and support on VN durirng the offseason about Kippy as an OC. I don't think he was interested in that job. Of course, our offense would have been far, far better this season with him.

His name hasn't really surfaced in the HC discussions, so I take it there's probably no interest on his part for that job either.

I suspect this won't happen for reasons that some here may know... I don't.

Will just have to be happy with whoever the HC is.......until Peyton Manning retires and takes over the ropes.:clapping:

There's a reason that you don't, and won't, see former pro stars in coaching these days. They make too much freakin' money to resort to the headaches that are involved in coaching after their playing careers are over. You may be able to get his third-string backup though.

Butch Davis
Jerry Moore
Chris Petersen

Butch already told ESPN that he's not interested.

Jerry Moore...no. We saw how much D-1AA coaches help our program.

Chris Petterson...here's my beef with him. He's probably a good coach (you have to be if you can get recruits to come to Idaho) but I say NO!! based on the history of past Boise State coaches. I live and go to school in Fayetteville, AR (please forgive me) and believe me, you don't want a Boise State coach! Houston Nutt and Dirk Koetter were not good coaches. Nutt is the luckiest son of a bich still to this day, and Koetter was terrible at ASU. Let's learn from other schools and not make the same mistake. This is a huge time in Vols history and we need to make history by getting a GREAT coach.

My list:
Gruden
Bill Cowher (unrealistic but I want him the most)
Pete Carroll
Houston Nutt...just kidding :)

Mike Singletary?

Do you think if we had Monte Kiffin (HC) come in, we could get Lane (OC and offensive coordinator) to be his HC in waiting.....similar to a Jimbo Fisher situation.

Wouldn't mind having Mike Gundy right about now.

He is a man. I don''t think anyone would ever question that.:)

He could do wonders for the Vols image with the media given his affinity for it.:)

I just can't shake that presser for him... sorry.

Does anyone actually think there is a candidate out there that will unite Vol nation...or are we destined no matter who gets hired that part of the fanbase will feel we have made a mistake..?

I think there a quite a few candidates that the fanbase could get behind, but it has to be a big name.

Davis has already announced he isn't leaving UNC

He's in the battle for the ACC Coastal Division race plus in the hunt for a good bowl. Why would he say anything else but that he is not interested? It would take the wind out of the sails of his players to say otherwise.
