Official New Coach Thread Of The Tennessee Volunteers? (merged)

I say shoot for the moon
1. Pete Carroll
2. Bob Stoops
3. Les Miles
4. Nick Saban
Throw a bunch of money at them and see who takes it

1. Butch Davis, NC
2. Chris Peterson, Boise St.
3. Brian Kelly, Cincinnati
4. Paul Johnson. GT

why would we go for Nick Saban, something about uninformed people and their say on these message boards.....

throw a bunch of money at Bob Stoops, well he makes 6.5 so what is a bunch to him 10 million.?

Take it for what it's worth, but I just received some insider info from the AD of TCU who is good friends with Mike Hamilton. He said our top 3 targets are this in order:
1. Jon Gruden
2. Mike Leach
3 Jim Grobe

Just giving you information I believe to be true. Take it for what it's worth. But I kinda want my Phil back! That press conference yesterday tore me up!

I still think for the timing that this all came out, Hamilton must want Kiffin and wants to keep him from signing with one of the other schools

Replace Grobe with Kiffen, then switch 2 and 3 and I like that list. :hi:

"Take it for what it's worth." LOL!!! It's worth little.

I know! That's why I said take it for what it's worth. Just trying to add interesting thoughts to the conversation. Never said that was the end all, be all definite list.

anyone heard rumors Bill
cowher has been seen in Knoxville with the AD

I also heard Peyton Manning was in town. Maybe he is going to retire after this year to become the head coach. His Colts ARE sucking and his knee is bum. Peyton for coach!!

don't think Manning is looking for a coach job but Cowher is. However you are right Peyton has been seen around town

Reality Check Time People<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Jon Gruden - NFL Coach and happy with that. He is not coming, this is not like Saban who spent the majority of his time in college and could not take the pressure of the NFL. Gruden is not COMING.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Bill Cowher - Are you all smoking your breakfast. The guy does not need th money or the stress and he just bought a house in Cleveland. I am pretty sure he is the next GM or Coach of the Browns where he played.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
MIKE LEACH <?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" /><v:shapetype id=_x0000_t75 stroked="f" filled="f" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" o:preferrelative="t" o:spt="75" coordsize="21600,21600"><v:stroke joinstyle="miter"></v:stroke><v:formulas><v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"></v:f></v:formulas><v:path o:connecttype="rect" gradientshapeok="t" o:extrusionok="f"></v:path><o:lock aspectratio="t" v:ext="edit"></o:lock></v:shapetype><v:shape id=Picture_x0020_1 style="VISIBILITY: visible; WIDTH: 21.6pt; HEIGHT: 19.8pt; mso-wrap-style: square" alt="0" type="#_x0000_t75" o:spid="_x0000_i1026"><v:imagedata o:title="0" src="file:///C:\Users\miker\AppData\Local\Temp\msohtmlclip1\01\clip_image001.gif"></v:imagedata></v:shape> Are you are freaking kidding me. I want to understand your thought process but I think it maybe missing. Mike Leach has been at Texas Tech for 9 seasons and has a 74-37 record (for those of you a little slow, that is a winning percentage of 66% which just happens to be slightly less than Fulmer's 75%). He has yet to win 10 or games in a season and has not went to a BCS bowl yet. If it takes a guy 9 years to build a program for a shot at the title, do you really want him. Oh and for the kool-aid fanatics drooling over his offense, you better put up big numbers cause his defense give up 30+ on a regular basis. <o:p></o:p>

<o:p></o:p>
We need someone who has a vision of dominance that is inline with that of Tennessee. I believe that can be found in one of the four candidates below<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
1) Lane Kiffin<o:p></o:p>
2) Chris Peterson<o:p></o:p>
3) Brian Kelly<o:p></o:p>
4) Jim Harbaugh<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
No particular order either.<o:p></o:p>

Where the hell did these Mike Leach fans come from?

His gimmick pass happy offense would fail in the SEC,up until this season hes been an average 8-4 coach.

Oh, yeah. Four years ago when they named Meyer the coach at Florida.

If I was the athletic director here is how I would approach it:

First I would start with great coaches that we will probably not get:
Pete Carroll
Jon Gruden
Bill Cower
Etc...
Then I would try people like:
Successful NFL Offensive/Defensive Coordinators
Butch Davis
Lane Kiffin
Mike Leech

Then as a third tier:
Chirs Peterson
Steve Spurrier
Mike Stoops
and etc...

now dont bring steve spurrier into the picture

many vols hate seeing him on our sidelines

Call Oklahoma for a reference and see what you get.
