Official March Madness Thread

I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, and I'm not about to read 50 pages to catch up in this thread, so someone help me out.

Have the 1, 2, 3, and 4 seeds from the same region ever failed to make the second weekend?

I ask because Kentucky's path pisses me off to no end. The "best team" they'll possibly have to play on their way to a Final Four is a 7-seed Nevada. What in the absolute heck is going on?!?

First weekend, and two 1s, two 2s, two 3s, and two 4s won't make the Sweet 16.
Good question. I bet not

First time ever, saw it on Twitter...also only 4th time ever only 2 one seeds have made S16

Also I remember a certain poster on here saying that UNC wouldn't make it to the second weekend back in December, and he got ridiculed for it. I guess said poster knows more than what some fans give him credit for.

...and to think Calipari was whining about his draw after Selection Sunday.

Not Cal's fault that all those teams **** the bed. I think that Cal isn't serious about that TBH. He is as savvy a psychologist with his team as any to create an us vs. The world mentality.

Now watch them blow it against K State on Thursday....

UK Fans - Would you rather.....

1. Make it to Final 4 and lose on buzzer beater (heartbreaking) to Michigan or Gonzaga.
2. Make it to championship and get beat by Duke by 30.

At this point, I hope Tennessee doesn’t ever get the 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Seems like it would put more pressure on our guys than it would helping us considering the whole world expects us to make a deep run in the Tournament.

It’s not always the best case scenario.

Plus, consider how embarrassing it would be if we were the first ever 1 seed to lose to a 16 seed. ... oh , wait

The issue I have with Cal's whining is that he finally gets a taste of what 98% of the rest of college basketball deals with on a yearly basis. And the one year that he and his team aren't gift-wrapped a direct path to the E8, the entire bracket falls apart and they are still gift-wrapped a path, most likely to the finals. The toughest matchup they could possibly face before the championship game is a 3-seeded Michigan, who for 2/3 of the season, looked like a bubble team.

Thanks. I figured it probably had never happened before. It's probably never happened before either, that two 1 seeds, two 2 seeds, two 3 seeds, and two 4 seeds were all knocked out before the Sweet 16.

I think that you're confusing either situation with a Vol fan's wet dream.

Sorry, but you are wrong about Kentucky's so-called "gift-wrapped runs". It just isn't the truth.

Again, hindsight is 20/20. The odds of UMBC beating Virginia or Buffalo downing Arizona were very small. If we knew then what we know now, seeding would have been much different.

Nope, that would be for UK to get blown out by Kansas State. Coach Cal holds press conference the next day and announces he is leaving for the NBA. The day after wiretaps unveil Coach Cal comes clean to funneling money to agents in exchange for players signing. The University of Kentucky then disbands their basketball program.

By "gift-wrapped", I mean by virtue of annually being a 1 seed. Every 1-seed is basically gift-wrapped a trip to the Sweet 16, and only has to beat, at worst, a 4 seed to make the Elite 8. Those are very doable tasks. Some teams wet the bed (UVA and Xavier), but generally speaking, making the Sweet 16 and to a lesser extent, the Elite 8 as a 1 seed is pretty much a given, even without upsets to lessen the trouble.

Loyola is a good team guys. But it sucks losing that game and knowing we could have been staring a UK elite 8 match up in our face.

Tell me why a team shouldn't try to zone lo-Chicago?

They spread the floor and their cuts are just killing folks. Why not neutralize that?
