Official Major League Soccer/US Men's National Team Thread

Studs up is perpendicular to the ground, which his studs didn't make it that far.

I would have called it from ESPN's angle, but after seeing that angle, I wouldn't have called it, but that's just me.

We got away with a couple of no-calls ourselves. I wouldn't be complaining. We were lucky to get out of there with a point

We only got away with one. The one the announcers kept going on about with Bradley wasn't even close to being a foul. He touched the Mexican guy and the Mexican guy dove like he got hit by a car.

Then it's a penalty. Possession of the ball and actual contact are irrelevant. If a defender goes in studs up in the box, then it's a penalty.

I agree it should have been called. But having said that, screw Mexico. Couldn't have not happened to a better trash talking rival team.

I was impressed with Guzan....feel that we are in good hands with him if Howard retires or gets injured again.....he has had to really develop this year with the very very bad defense in front of him at Aston Villa....so our defense, as bad as it is, is probably like an all star team to him :)

All of a sudden I feel like our team, when healthy, isn't a terrible as I thought.

Besler, Gonzalez, and Zussi played far above my expectations for the Mexico match.

I'm still "green" with soccer, so prepare for a summer of ignorant and emotion based statements, I am trying to learn.

I do recognize two names Dempsey, my favorite (along with McBride in 2002) and Beasley who drove me crazy with that Bruce Arenas team. Not sure why WCQ is a good time to throw him into LB fire, but I trust the Kaiser.

Who would've been a better option? LB has been a problem with the national team for awhile now (see Bornstein getting starts back there). We finally have a couple of options at the position, but thanks to injuries or being in the middle of a poor run of form they weren't option this week. I tend to be very critical of Klinsman's decisions, but he was put in a tough situation at LB this week and can't fault him for going with Beasley.

Boooooooo.

Do you have some aversion to one of the greatest players in US soccer history deciding he's up for rejoining the national team? Given our struggles in CONCACAF in recent months, I don't see any way the team as its currently constituted having what it takes to advance beyond the group stage of the WC. Any and all great players should be welcome at this point.

I will never forgive him for what he did to San Jose.

So I just returned from Azteca. Wow what an experience. Good to be back in the US. I can tell you that 105,000 angry fans are very loud and throw alot beer. I will take the point and the beer shower. I will post pictures later, time for a nap at the moment.

THAT'S what I'm talking about. Porter ball finally wins one, smacked down Houston 2-0. Ryan Johnson is crazy good so far.

Holy crap what a game today btw Tottenham and FC Basel.....DEMPSEY with 2 goals....but my Spurs lost in shootout....Dempsey didnt get a chance to take one....Friedel looked old....

All I've been hearing/reading from Brit Spurs fans for weeks is how Dempsey is crap and needs to get shipped while Dembele is the truth... Couldn't be further from reality after today. Horrendous showing by almost everyone outside of Deuce.

Yes on the Spurs FB page before Demps scored his goals, they were saying how he wasn't even good enough to be in the Premier league....then BOOM 2 goals and not a PEEP....matter of fact Basel's 1st goal was Dembele's fault with that horrible back pass attempt. They can't stand the fact he is American.

I was at the match.

There were also a few incidents prior to the opening whistle.

- The Timbers Army is fairly antagonistic to scalpers. One scalper was trying to sell a ticket to somebody, when a TA member (an amputee military vet) intervened and told the prospective customer where to purchase a ticket for face value. Another scalper sucker punched the vet in the head and knocked him down.

- A Timbers supporter heckled a group of San Jose fans from his car, and a woman among the SJ fans attacked him through his window, another couple jumped on his car and one more opened his passenger door and attacked him.

Hate to say it, but SJ fans in particular have a pretty poor reputation for scumbaggery and poor execution of hooliganism. Was not a good weekend for the 1906 Ultras.
