Official Major League Soccer/US Men's National Team Thread

Half way there. At this rate I still don't see the US getting through 90 minutes without getting one of its back four red carded, giving up a goal, or both. With that in mind, the US better figure out a way to get a shot on goal if they want to leave with a point.

Blowing a few good looks

Somebody update me. I get that winning this isn't necessary for the good guys, but if we do, have we basically eliminated Mexico?

No. This is only the third of ten games. Three of the six teams qualify automatically and the fourth place team goes to a play-in with New Zealand. Nothing short of an act of god will keep Mexico from qualifying for the WC.

Neat. Haven't been paying attention much lately, but from now I'll keep watching.

Huge performance.

I was shaky on Klinny going into this, but I think he just earned himself some serious respect with this one.

Caught the highlight after the game.

That was a bad no-call. You don't have to make contact in soccer to draw the penalty. Bearing in cleats up like that with little/no chance of making contact should be enough. Mexico got jobbed.

That said, given how frequently USMNT gets jobbed on the road in CONCACAF, I'll consider this one karma.

ehh, the studs are up because he's stepping in, but off to the side of Aquino's body, & didn't make contact. It was pretty dumb to even attempt that from where he was, but I still don't see it.

Definitely a foul, but the ball is gone by the time the mess happens. How do they handle fouls in the box with the ball already gone and heading out of bounds?

Then it's a penalty. Possession of the ball and actual contact are irrelevant. If a defender goes in studs up in the box, then it's a penalty.
