Official Madden '10 Thread

Haven't really decided whether I'm going to buy it - and probably won't till a week or so before release so I'll just take the left overs if a spot is still available for me.

Franchise mode is supposedly going to be upgraded and completely different..

I read an article about it on insideblog.easports.com

Have been looking around for a "fix" for our online franchise in Madden in case they dont fix the cap and contract issue. Check this out and tell me what you think???

Here's what we are doing in the TSL.

Players are giving a "point value" based on there ratings.
95+ = 10 points
90-94= 9
84-89= 8
78-83= 7
70-77= 6
59-69= 4
45-59= 2
0-44= 1

Simple enough. Then you add up you teams total "cap value". My Lions are currently at 265 points total. (use the excel spreadsheet with all the teams and player ratings)

Then there is a "League Cap" which acts like a salary cap. For TSL it is 315. So no team can go over this number. The Giants start with 329 points so they have some cutting to do to get below the League cap to start. There was only 3 teams that were over the cap to start the League. The League cap is increased by %8 each season to mimic the NFL.

The remaining points can be used to bid on Free Agents. My Lions cap is 265 and the League cap is 315, so I currently have 50 points to bid for Free agents with. If your team cap is 310 then you would only have 5 points to bid with and might need to release some players to bid on free agents.

Free agents have no cap value to start with. Their value is determined by how much you pay for the player. So say Chris Mcalister is rated 86 (he's an 8 point player according to the ratings scale). But FA starts and 4 teams drive up the bidding and someone wins him for 15 points. Then 15, not 8, is the Mcalister's cap value and remains that number until he retires or is released.

No team can go over the League cap at any time.

This can all be easily done using the excel spreadsheet that is floating around on the internet with all the players ratings. (I believe pastapadre had them). Using the excel formulas makes keeping track of your roster very simple, and simple is good.

We opened Free agency for the TSL yesterday and it was fast and furious bidding between owners for current Free agents. Plaxico Burress is up around 22 points even though he is an 8 point rated reciever. Each owner puts a different value on different players.

Guys this is from Bearcat i like this idea but want everyones input also. We have to have a salary cap of some sort so if anyone else has an idea put it on here.

I was going to post that. I like it. It's simple and we don't have to focus on having a salary cap based on actual contracts.

How can a team in real life sign 5 guys in the off season that is comparable to 95+ rating and stay under the cap? Ok idea in my opinion.... I just hate trying to fix something that SHOULD be in the game. More than likely the Titans will be up for grabs.

More than likely, they won't be able to sign 5 players like that because the bids start getting high.

How will the CPU teams work though? Will they just keep the same team?

Yeah looks that way if smoke drops we need to all draft over i know alot of guys were wanting the Titanic Blunders

any chance the new guy can move teams, just dont like the balance with 3 teams in 1 division when theres others with 1

Change of plans for me guys. I won't be getting Madden....at least it doesn't look like it right now.

The new Madden demo coming out late july will consist of a full game (5 min quarters) between the Steelers and the Cardinals..

Didn't know if it had been mentioned

If you preorder through Gamestop, you will get the demo with five minute quarters, if you dont you will get it with 2 or 3(cant remember) quarters and you will only get it when it drops on live a week or two later.
