I can confirm directly from Tennessee that Ergen does give substantially to Tennessee athletics. You can’t have a closer source to Tenn that how I confirmed this.

Don’t know if he wants to be involved in the coaching search, but I can 100% confirm Ergen has given “substantially” was the word used.

Deerpark is flat out wrong on that part of this argument

Actually, there is one person who can counter the "Ergen doesn't want to be involved" narrative. And he likely won't talk out of class as it doesn't seem to be his style. Which brings up the important questions:

If DP isn't as connected to UT Athletics any longer (his own words) where is his information coming from?

Why the all out assault against Ergen in the manner in which it unfolded?

Is his information up to date on Gruden and the possibility of coaching?

Too many times we have seen information that's outdated and incorrect all the way back to 2012. Remember how "UT is living in a fantasy world" from Gruden's agent back then? But it seems like we were in talks at that time which gives the lie to his statement. DTO, whom I respect, has changed his stance on Gruden and went all in as of Saturday.

Here's the thing. As I stated last night in another post, I doubt more than 12 people know the "whole" story. Hell, I'd bet most of the boosters know the "whole" story. Information trickle out of the AD has reached all time lows. My guess? Everything is compartmentalized and kept between those in the know. I'm not sure ANYONE really knows the score.

I respect you for what you've brought in the past, but I don't think anyone can go all in on a 0% chance of ANY coach not named Meyer, Saban or Sweeney coming to UT. So long as the money is right, coaches will listen. They may politely decline in the end, but by and large, they will entertain what's being offered.

Hey Mr. Deer Park, take this $1000 and get on that Volnation and discredit Chuck Ergan.

"Gee thanks Mr. Haslam"

Then there is no plan past Gruden.

Regardless of what other mouthbreathers out in the FF think, Mullen is NOT an upgrade.

If he is, it isnt much of one.

UT could end up with a decent coach and that would be all well and good but we need a freaking white whale this time!

To save this class and unite an entire fanbase, its going to take a homerun. I like Mullen ok, but he is not a homerun.

Heres to hoping DP is wrong a 3rd time

So Swain just directly contradicted exactly what DeerPark said this morning... said their are big money boosters making a power-play for Gruden. That Gruden was top of their wish list, and that moves have been made so they Haslam isn’t calling all the shots anymore. Said they have the cash, they want to spend it, and they want Jon Gruden. Went as far as to say that if what he was saying lines up with the message boards it wouldn’t surprise him. DP “deserves to be listened to” says you VN vets.. so make some sense of this for me.

SOON

I’m a VN vet. I didn’t say listen to him, WTF?

Mullen is out at Florida, was said AD didnt have good Relationship with him and it wasnt even on the table

Frost is headed to Nebraska

1. Gruden
2. Mullen
3.
4.
5. Kiffin if we get turned down by the rest.

I know MSU friends who follow enough to know. I was told the only real issue was that Stricklin did not extend Mullen before he left. That said, Stricklin has roots in Starkville and married the daughter of their best basketball player in program history. The quote to me was "Stricklin wouldn't be able to step back into Starkville if he hired Mullen." That, along with the recent comments from Mullen's wife, make him highly improbable at UF.

Dude don't let it get to you. People are out here looking for the smallest reason to lynch someone

Im fine. I know what I believe and thats all I care about. Ive seen enough to convince me that this deal is done just as it was in 2012 before Alabubba Hart and Haslam effed it all up.

This thread is where I come to stay away from the crazy I see in the main board.

When these jokers come in here spewing the same old "hes not coming" garbage it does light my fuse.

Especially when it supposedly connected condescending jerk offs.

My handle is RagingOrange for a reason. Ive been a member here since 2009, and if anyone can remember, since 2008-2009 its been a **** show. I created my name in response to what I was feeling about this program...and havent felt the need to change it.

Now...if Gruden is hired...I may just change it, and lose the chip on my shoulder.

So no worries about me mate.

Mullen is a huge upgrade from Butch.

Not really, no.

Look, good game planner and in game coach. Horrible recruiter. And don't give me that nonsense "he can't recruit to Starkville." He hasn't even tried. Won't turn his on field success into recruiting prowess. Won't try to upgrade the facilities.

Is perfectly content to have a below .500 SEC winning percentage and make $4.5 million a year doing it.

Now you could bring the "But he plays in the SEC West! They are tough!" nonsense. If he was a great coach, he'd be challenging Bama year in and year out for the SEC West position. Yet...he hasn't. Because he can't or won't recruit.

I don't want a freaking upgrade. I want a home run hire that's good in all facets of the game. I don't care if that's Gruden or not. I want:

A: Great recruiter
B: Great player development
C: Great game planner
D: Great in game coach
E: Challenge at the highest levels and pushing for the SEC CG nearly every year.

That is NOT Dan Mullen.

I, personally, know that I've seen a significant increase over the last 5-7 years in the number of times I see dish network branding with Tennessee athletics. So it seems odd to me that DP would suggest that ergen doesn't really participate or has been stagnant in his participation.

But he also said that he has given the same amount annually for the past 10 years. Could be a huge amount? One of my super-rich clients donates to a lot of political causes, but the number of folks he gets to give too provides more $ than he gives himself.

I've been told Ergen will periodically hang out at the DISH tent in Volunteer Village before some of the games. Maybe we should just ask him? :)
