Official Jon Gruden Thread XXVIII

Bro, why do you think all of us are excited about? I agree with you completely but something feels different this time. If we don’t have hope what do we have? If they screw it up, well, we know what to expect. But what if they don’t? You’re not going to get your solid info in here. It’s a message board. I suggest you jump in and enjoy the ride.

They screwed it up in 2012 and I have no reason to believe that they will get it right this time either.

We need an AD like Doug Dickey that will take control and run the Football program like a profitable business rather a fat government funded contract.

I'm out too.

I learned Tim McGraw is a coke head, Tuesday gets really excited by Justin Timberlake, DP thinks we "legions of the miserable" need to shut up and just take whoever the UT AD trots out in front of us, and that he doesn't work for the AD but uses the word "we" a lot while while discussing the inner workings of said AD.

Now I gotta get some sleep so I can finish up installing the glow plugs in my truck in the morning so I can hit the road.

Later and soon..

Cindy Gruden would like to move to East Tennessee. There's a good chance that her name will appear on a real estate transfer in this area in the next couple of weeks.

That does not, however, mean that Jon Gruden has a desire to be a college football coach at any price point. We have an airport and there are already three ESPN employees that use it to fly to game assignments each week.

I noticed that you didn't necessarily say that JG DOESN'T want the Tennessee job... cue the Lloyd Christmas gif. What I'm curious about is why the move to East Tennessee now, right when the Grumors are heating up again? Seems awful coincidental.

Great. But you made the comment that “you wouldn’t have to listen to the miserable whine and complain”. That wreaks of arrogance and is not rooted in any facts. We’ve given Dooley and Botch a chance! But they HAVE to get this hire right or ther renovations to Neyland would be to remove the upper deck.

Give us a coaching canidate thet you’ve heard then. Tell
Us something you’ve heard that we can all get fired up about since your in the know.

Some of these so called miserable people spend good money on the university. The only miserable I see is not doing better in our administration, time will tell if they have learned the lesson. I choose to remain positive, it's all on the line for Currie and his legacy and the future direction of UT. Most UT fans might not have big shot money, but that don't mean they don't know that we can do better than what we are doing for coaches. They arrogance of some of these folks that scoff at us being able to even possibly get a big time coach is sickening. Pure mediocre minded people without a drive to be the best or try to achieve the best. That should be what UT strives for first and foremost. While all the big wigs talk about stadium upgrades upwards of 360 million dollar range they better get the hire right and not settle. There is no excuses for it and will not be accepted by most Tennessee fans. Tired of the BS and whining from the mediocre crowd, 8-4 should be the floor at UT. The floor, we have been a dominant program throughout history and repeatedly came roaring back and we can again with a good adminstration. History says we will wake up, if Currie or any of this administration thinks they can keep getting big time donations playing losing sec football and not investing in the biggest part of it all, and that is a quality staff. Not a mid-major staff, not a up and coming staff. We must not settle, PERIOD! This administration better dang well believe that the heartbeat of the fan base is watching and they better deliver. SOON! GET GRUDEN! GBO!

Correct. Be prepared for them to send out another Dooley or Butch and then expect you to get excited while they raise ticket prices and ask us for more money. Meanwhile, the product on the field will still stink and we will be told that we just need 6 or 7 years to rebuild the last guys mess that they gave us.

If they choose to go that route and continue the same trend, then they are as incompetent as we all believe them to be.

But to make the fans out to be miserable, whiny, *****es is ridiculous. Do things right, or at the very least show that you attempted to do things right, and you might find the complaints to be a lot less frequent.

Do I want Gruden, yes. Do I believe he is coming, well part of me does or at least hopes he does. But at no point should any of us apologize for wanting UT to get back to consistent winning football. *****ing and all.

No not saying you are saying that Gunner, just making a blanket statement.

Let's look at the positives here. He never denied Gruden. Seems like he just wants us to think when Gruden is hired that it was all the AD's doing. We know better!

SOON!!!

With all the press that has come out about Ergen, it makes sense the UT AD would want to steer the story in a way that better aligns with their goals. Do you think they want the story to come out that they are being strong-armed? Probably not - that's not really beneficial to their future endeavors.

The thing that caught my attention is that DP claims CE hasn't given anything more than his standard donation. That may be true, may not be true. Frankly, I'm surprised that information would be given out on a forum so I remain highly skeptical of that. However, remember this is bigger than Ergen and while he may not be funding it directly, he has allegedly gathered the support of the majority of the other boosters around him.

CE may be the ringleader in all of this - just not directly
financially for the stadium or the coach. If everything MIT is to be trusted, the biggest victory would be getting Haslam's hands out of the cookie jar. Others (eg Peyton) may be more responsible for the decision to get Gruden as a side-effect of this effort.

IMO Deerpark hasn't really disproven anything of value. I'd be more interested in hearing who he thinks is the leading candidate or timing of Butch Jones' dismissal - both things he should be able to comment on given his proximity to the department.

I'm certain DP has an agenda, it seems mostly to slow the Gruden talk probably because they were told to do so by the Haslams who want a coach and AD that they can control.

I’m not choosing a side on DP here, but I have always taken his info as legit.

Those who are bashing him need to ask yourself, if DP had just posted here tonight and said “Gruden is coming. I just done seent him in the hallway”

This place would go nuts and he would suddenly be the most reputable insider that could have possibly verified this info.

Again, that being said, he could easily weigh in on who we are going to hire, and doesn’t seem to want to. I don’t understand that.

He lost some credibility with me when he referred to this fandom as the legions of the miserable and then in another post he denied working for the AD. He certainly does have an agenda and he may be lying as to his current employer.

What just happened? Psychologists call it displaced aggression, but most of us recognize it as the kick-the-dog effect. Anger and frustration in one part of life can lead us to lash out at innocent people. 😎

I love how Cattlemen’s is exactly in the middle of nowhere. It’s like that strip joint in From Dusk Til Dawn. Absolutely nothing around it, built on an oasis.

Ha! "Nowhere" is an understatement. Better trust your driver, as you may begin to wonder if you're on a one way trip into the desert. First trip out there was at night, and had no clue where in the hell I was being taken. Definitely not the time to start thinking about cult sacrifices!

I want the nineties back as bad as anyone but until we get an AD like Doug Dickey it's not very likely and this current trend will continue.

I'm laughing so hard at the idea that Charlie Ergen is going to spearhead anything for Tennessee.

Ergen has given the same amount every year for more than a decade. He doesn't make big additional gifts for facility upgrades and declined to make a "leadership gift" on the stadium renovation approved Thursday. The $50 million already raised for the project includes zero from him, despite a personal trip to Colorado to ask for it by a group of UT administrators a month or so ago.

Under no circumstances is he going to write a check for a new coach, especially not one for Jon Gruden. Unless he's had a full frontal lobotomy in the last month that has changed his personality completely, any story involving him getting involved in a coaching search or the funding of one is a total fabrication.
