Official Jon Gruden Thread XXVIII

Gruden will be wearing his orange tie this week on MNF. Then the sheriff is going to join him in the booth and PM is going to introduce him as the next head football coach at Tennessee. After that JG is going to be handed a Smokey mascot head from PM. Jon Gruden will put it on and the sheriff will applaud.

I see you're coming around. There's hope for you yet.

I don't want to be a jerk, but I wouldn't get my hopes on Gruden coaching at UT as long as Haslams have any say in the matter he will never come here to coach for many of the same reasons he didn't come in 2012.

Quit trying to be the smartest person in the forum. Nobody in here wants to hear your amateur opinion on anything. You missed your chance about 20 threads ago.

This is my first time posting and may be my last as it is outside of my comfort zone! I suffered a painful loss a few months ago. In addition to taking up excess amounts of my time, the Official Jon Gruden threads have given me a much needed diversion from the hard work of grief. I have laughed until I've cried instead of just crying. The intrigue the Beav and ATLvol have provided have brought out my Nancy Drew sleuthing skills. I've laughed at PreacherWebb's lists and GrandVol's updates, prayed for Hawk's wife and SmokinBob's family and Boro's son, and learned law from HearforGrumors. I've appreciated smokeyhuntsgators' faithful "Soon" and SFD's analysis. I'm grateful for the input of other women on the site, and totally impressed Sara Clark called asking for Jon Gruden! So, I just want to thank all the regular posting Grudenites for taking the time to do so and brightening my days. I'm at 95%! SOON!:)
I pray for healing for whatever you are going through. So sorry to hear that you have been suffering.

With everyone else getting rid of their coaches, don't you find it odd we haven't? The reason being, we aren't in a hurry to have an official open position as to get in a bidding war over a coach we want. The deal is done, only formalities at this point. Meanwhile the media are clamoring around trying to figure out why we are waiting. We are waiting because we have our man, no need to make a move before the end of the season, it accomplishes nothing. :)

I really wish people would read this BEFORE scrambling around trying to find their inhaler after hearing another school fired their coach for not winning games . I wonder if TA&M stopped all their recruits from visiting on home coming also .

Gruden is a great smokescreen for what is about to come our way. Just looking forward to no more Division 2 coaching. GBO!!!!!!!

Imho, UT hasn't fired Butch because his buyout is reduced significantly after season and they want to save some extra cash along with the fact they can't get anyone else to do it.

His buyout doesn’t work like that.

The contract has a liquidated damages (buyout) provision that is 2 million dollars a year times the number of full years plus a prorated amount of partial years based on a year being 365 days.

The payout is due as an equal sum, payable monthly, that is the total buyout divided by the number of months left on the contract.

A year runs from March 1 to February 28.

Long story short, his buyout is only reduced by about 5500$ a day. That said, as long as he’s not fired he’s making something like 7500 a day plus all bonuses, benefits and perks.

In rough terms the cost of Butch being the head coach versus being fired is 2000 a day.

Age has its privileges.

Couple of grandsons in high school and their principal is a gator. He evidently talks smack to them when they wear their Tennessee stuff.

After we got back from Georgia game, I told them to tell their principal on Monday, that their Poppa T said ... Soon! They laughed and said OK.

Love it....
