Official Jon Gruden Thread XXV

There is absolutely no chance Jones is the coach here next year.....none. I will bet all of my 10 credits of e- cred on it.

Ok. So I am not going to go through the millions of posts from today, but the few I've skimmed, the dream seems to be dead.

I have tried to be positive that Butch is gone, but if the storyline has changed about Butch being the so-called interim and that he is here until they announce Gruden, then I am leaning toward Butch Jones being on the sideline next year.

Tell me I'm wrong, because that is a real-life horror story to me...appropriate for today, but not pleasant to think about.

Just throwing my $.02 in the pot again.

I don't think MIT is a troll in the typical sense. SFD will be pleased to know that I believe she was the first one on the right track here - and that is inquiring into intentions.

Many other insiders on this board are long account holding individuals. Their identity on this board is as a supporter of the team and the university. MIT has always spread information in a tone that signifies he WANTS that information out. The info he has is explosive, and he knows that. I also believe that if his source wanted the info silenced, it would have been already. In sum, I don't believe he is making this stuff up, I believe he is a mole. I wouldn't expect too see him on this board in the future. That account will likely dry up once this is all over.

With regards to the airplane/sign thing - I think the end is near, and its a sign that they are doing everything they can to influence the outcome. Nothing more, nothing less. If the deal is as good as they say it is, and the penalty for non conformance as painful as they say it is, then 100% confidence is not a far-fetched position to find yourself. That doesn't mean you let off steam, the General would agree.

I don't think he's here to smoke screen us, I think the more likely scenario is that he is an agent of the pro-Gruden faction. If anyone felt burned form 2012, they would have spent 5 years reflecting on what could have been done differently. I have to believe that they are making good on those reflections. MIT is just part of that equation.

With regards to the info they are sharing, and the substance of our conversation yesterday. I fully believe that the largest conflict is between the AA and the AD. I think the Haslem bit is just not as big of an issue. At this point, I'd hope he'd be on board - I could be wrong.

In talking to Bubba yesterday about the Pareto efficiency of the deal, it makes sense that everyone is close to getting what they want. (Getting what they need from a deal regarding Gruden.) If his information is legit, and I'm assuming it is arguendo, then any group who had been holding out is close to being satisfied. This lines up well with what a number of other posters have been saying. That the final wrinkles are being ironed out, the final ducks are getting in the row.

This is a huge deal, as it has been presented here. If it was as simple as "fire coach - hire coach" then we wouldn't be in this position. There is something about this deal that smells like it implicates major culture changes, and its silly for anyone to think that will happen in a short time line.

For me, I pay attention to a few points:

(1) I find ATL's disappearance to be very interesting. He was here a lot early on. Made a post about being highly involved with the process, and said that if it got close he wouldn't be reporting it here. His radio silence is a very interesting fact.

(2) So many different sources have confirmed Jones won't be here next year. It's hard to distrust all those sources. Not impossible, but unlikely.

(3) There is no smoke about any other coaches. If (2) is true, then it would be presumed that we would be in the hunt. Contacts made, talks started.

(4) It was said early on that everyone on the booster side was "rowing in the same direction this time." I've seen nothing to indicate this isn't true. Perhaps I've been selective, but the rare account of a booster side source who says something negative is either from an un-trusted source, or easily explainable. (If your major booster friend's father doesn't spill the beans that doesn't mean it isn't happening. People who sign NDA's lie to their family all the time, trust me.)

I still believe. I believe PATIENCE is crucial to sanity.

Good things happen to good people, and we've been good for a long time.

Soon.

Excellent post!

I hope things work out with JG. I’m planning for the worst and hoping for the best, I would assume UT is too. Im no more confident or discouraged about JG than I was 2 weeks ago, I am more discouraged and concerned that Butch is still our HC. If the JG deal doesn’t work out, I hope we can finally let go of the Grumors and move on. I love being from Tennessee and I love being a Vols fan and I’m simply pissed off that those we have had and have in positions of leadership over something that means so much to us have let it sink to the depths we find ourselves in today. There’s only one way to redeem themselves in my eyes, bring us JG or the next best, whoever that is I don’t know, but if we haven’t dug out of this 10 year hole we’ve been digging within the next couple of years, I don’t think we will ever see Tennessee Football in the glory that it once was.

Here's my thoughts...

Gruden in play. Trying everything to make it happen. UT has ALL the time in the world to worry about candidates A-Z. All other coaches are already employed and won't be available for talks until post season.

Gruden or bust. If bust, we'll know in time to make a play on the next guy.

Go get Grude.

I don't think so.

Ok. Goat and Sam were pretty much the show for a while, then someone else joined in. I thought it might have been you. But Goat and Sam called him kid for a while. They seemed to hit it off. Then the night crew thread started up. Oh well.

Nothing to expand on. Similar to your WANTS / NEEDS. I've just always believed that if you can identify a person's motivations you have a much easier time predicting their future behavior.

I talk about this in terms of "interests." Why is this person at the table? Why would they be interested in settlement? What are they afraid of? What would make them satisfied?

If you know why a person says a thing, responding is much easier.

A lot of chatter on VQ that something is happening with AD....peeps with sources confirm?

Yes...big blow up between Butch and Currie today.

Media relations people ducking in and out of meetings today.

Stripling likely replacement if we go with an interim. Hoke and Shoop hate each other's guts to the point of disfunctional.

Is this why the media is freaking out?
