Official Jon Gruden Thread XXV

Here's how. In the contract it states something to the extent of:

"Although executed on [DATE], this contract shall not be effective until [FUTURE DATE]."

You do this for many reasons, in this case it may provide time to get out of ESPN contracts or other duties to other parties. Contracts are often worded this way.

It's a mistake to think about this deal as one contract. It's likely more like ten contracts. I would be surprised if every contract other that the UT contract didn't have a future effective date (likely the same date).

Maybe, October 31st?

They would control the only aspect of the job that matters, which is the binary status of his employment by the university of Tennessee.

I don't see the Haslam's at practice, or calling plays on the sidelines.

I don't see why they would care what Gruden was doing as long as we were winning. I don't see any evidence they cared about what Butch did on a day to day basis.

How are the Cleveland Browns doing, not just on the field but overall as a franchise since the Haslams took over? They didn't draft Carson Wentz said he was a flop, they laughed at the thought of Watson. So you tell me do you want them making this next hire?

What if this is all done, but Currie is waiting on Butch to not make a bowl game so we can fire him, lower hos buyout, and use that money for Gruden and his coaches?

I stayed in to fight them off. My snowflake meter was chiming like crazy.

Wasted time readin 20 pages of people who need to enjoy the weather..well it's nice here in GA. Finally can throw on an Orange hoody, listen to puppy fans talk smack....feeling like I have pocket aces and betting I get the last laugh. I hope at least..they're obnoxious and brutal

Could be a number of reasons why it died.

Jones is gone

Kids see that they really don't want to play in his system that is struggling to score

Uncertain if he'll be back or not

That doesn't necessarily point to him being fired.

When was the last time jones mentioned anything about a recruit ? Is that normal ? If the answer is no then ... WHY?

The question to me is...if things continue without any acknowledgement from the AD before Saturday, will attendance be better or worse than UMASS 4th quarter?

I think it is going to look like a “dress like a seat” promotion happened

Would seem to be an expensive proposition to wait until 7 losses, would it not?

Then someone is going to have to explain it to me, cause for the longest time Beaver was saying it was done, 100%, so why would there be a fiscal issue?

Cause if Jones and Co. are gone either way then wouldn't there still be a fiscal issue?

So again, someone needs to explain it to me cause I'm not seeing it

If I understand the narrative correctly, the fiscal issues come into play if the University muffs the punt. Boosters withdrawing support of the University.

That's my understanding of what has been said.

I can't really answer that question, but that still doesn't say he's fired, cause he can't come out and openly talk about a recruit anyway.

Fairly positive that's against the rules.

So just today we have Hollywood Insider speculating that ESPN could drop the NFL, Matt Drudge tweeting that ESPN execs are already considering dropping the NFL, and Jon Gruden indicating in an interview that he might be interested in a return to coaching.

I've never said it before but I think it's time to: SOON!
